We have an exciting opportunity to join an established forwarder as a Business Development Manager.
This is an office-based role, so the successful candidate will need to be local and travel to the office (part of the export warehouse and the daily hub of the operation) to work.
The role requires commercial maintenance of the existing client base as well as the development of new business from customers based in the UK, as well as Jersey and Guernsey.
The role requires face-to-face visits with customers based throughout the UK and channel island customers, which will require regular travel to the channel islands as well as working closely with the operational teams in Fareham, Jersey, and Guernsey. Operational knowledge and experience will be advantageous as well as a proven sales track record and a willingness to learn and to work hard.
A car allowance is provided.
A younger sales professional with the right attitude would most certainly be considered; the successful applicant will be confident, educated, eloquent, and comfortable communicating at all levels.
Full training will be given for the specific job requirements.
Main Purpose of the Role
To win new business and work to agreed budget targets in line with the company growth strategy.
To strengthen market position by locating, developing, defining, promoting, negotiating, and securing new business by closing the sale.
Develop and maintain Road services to existing and potential clients, ensuring a profitable return for the company.
Work Experience
1. 5+ years of commercial sales experience with a strong focus in international groupage services or UK domestic distribution.
2. Strong understanding of the international groupage market or UK domestic distribution.
3. Strong business development skills alongside relationship-building skills.
4. Prior connections in the industry so you can come in and hit the ground running.
5. Self-starter, able to think quickly, plan, and act independently.
Skills Required
1. A result-oriented, hardworking self-starter who has a good understanding of the industry with strong closing skills.
2. UK domestic pallet or parcel experience.
3. A positive thinker, you are the kind of individual who constantly challenges yourself to exceed expectations and is not easily deterred from achieving goals.
4. Excellent interpersonal & administration skills with accurate pipeline forecasting.
5. Ability to communicate at all levels within the business, good persuasive, and negotiation skills.
6. Excellent processing & time management skills.
7. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
8. Driving success via using initiative, determination & persistence.
