Brief Description
Vacancy type: Permanent, 35 hours per week, Hybrid working of 2/3 days in the office.
Location: London Enterprise House.

Band & Salary: Band 3C £55,596 to £63,797 depending on experience.

About the role (External)
Main responsibilities:
1. Lead a team of designers in the telecoms clearance team to undertake design activities that are technically accurate and delivered on time and within budget.
2. Manage and develop engineering solutions to meet the requirements, scope, and operational performance targets while maintaining a robust challenge to sponsoring engineers and managers.
3. Manage all engineering and development activities in a safe & environmentally responsible manner for time, cost, and quality, looking at ways to make processes more efficient.
4. Manage (or undertake where applicable) the development of suitable engineering options for a proposal giving full consideration to safety.
5. Fulfilling the role of Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) or Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) as required.
6. Review compliance with appropriate standards.
7. Use Risk Identification and evaluation methods (e.g., HAZOP, QRA, LRM) to evaluate and compare options.
8. Monitor and support designers training and technical briefings.
9. Support the discharging of construction design management (CDM) Principal Designer and Designer duties.
10. Design, Check, Review and Approve deliverables within the individuals area of competence to deliver project requirements.
11. Manage adequate resourcing of the feasibility stages of project development.
12. Manage the engineering interfaces of allocated proposals with concurrent work in other disciplines.
13. Monitor, assess, evaluate and audit Consultants and Contractors.
14. Work closely with the wider RF community and GSM-R group as required.
What are we looking for?
Good proven ability to build strong relationships with external customers and manage their expectations.
Knowledge of rail (GSM-R) and public mobile radio systems.
A demonstrable aptitude for option development.
Strong evaluation and decision-making skills.
A working knowledge of rail engineering; relevant successful experience working in the principal discipline (radio) and an adequate understanding of all other related disciplines.
An ability to work and communicate effectively in a team context.
An appreciation of all the life cycle stages of rail infrastructure.
What could set you apart?
An engineering degree or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification.
Knowledge of the railway Command and Control Systems focusing on GSM-R and ETCS.
The ability to manage a team and external customers.
Membership of a relevant engineering professional institution.
Experience in design, installation, and maintenance.
CDM, Auditing and risk assessment competencies.
