Financial Accountant Location: London Contract Type: Permanent Work Pattern: Full Time and Hybrid (3 days a week in the London office) We are looking for a Financial Accountant to support the Finance Operations team in delivering and maintaining the financial results and operations of the MS Amlin Syndicate 2001. This role is a key part of the broader syndicate finance team who are responsible for maintaining accurate financial reporting, internal controls and regulatory compliance while supporting the financial decision-making process. It is an exciting time to join the finance team at MS Amlin, following the appointment of a new CFO in 2024 and a new Head of Finance, Operations, Transformation and Controls Governance in 2025, the team is undergoing a transformation project to ensure a fit for purpose working day timetable. As a result, members of the finance team can drive acceleration in the working day timetable, recommend key controls over the accuracy and completeness of the syndicate accounts as well implement financial insights to explain the result to internal and external stakeholders. While there is rarely a typical day, here’s a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job: The Financial Accountant will be responsible for preparing the non-technical accounts during the monthly and quarterly ledger close cycles. This includes journal preparation, balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining key controls within Regulatory and Head Office reporting timelines in accordance with the working day timetable. Perform balance sheet substantiation procedures. Perform analytical reviews to create insights over financial accounts that will support the Syndicate result over the reporting period. Responsible for supporting the ledger close process including maintaining the accuracy of the Oracle ledger across functional and presentational currency. Responsible for challenging the financial data inputs, integrity of information and be able to explain the results over accounts in their designated area. Ensuring processes are well documented and the risk and controls associated are identified with appropriate risk management applied (testing design and effectiveness) Improve systematic and automated controls, detect and highlight any key risks and or deficiencies from upstream information that may impact the integrity of the financial result. Participate in the user acceptance testing for resolutions over data quality issues. Build strong relationships with broader Finance, FP&A, Actuarial, IT and Underwriting teams to maintain and improve the quality of financial data inputs and financial reporting deliverables. Work directly with other areas of the Finance team and wider business to ensure the finance transformation agenda is understood across the organisation. Support ongoing change and transformation initiatives such as the working day timetable and Head Office reporting requirements. Engage with external stakeholders being Head Office and external audit, this involves producing year-end audit schedules and responding to queries in a timely manner. These include: Essential ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent accounting qualification Understanding of financial accounting (including investment, forex and expense management) Demonstrate evidence of interpreting and manipulating data clearly and accurately Proven track record of working in a deadline driven environment Good organisational skills including effective scheduling, prioritisation and time management skills Proficiency in financial software (Microsoft Excel, accounting systems and ERP) Good communication skills to articulate insights Excellent analytical skills Strong controls and reconciliations experience Desirable Understanding of the Lloyd’s Market Understanding of financial reporting and regulatory requirements specific to the insurance sector. Experience with using Oracle general ledgers.
