Job Purpose
Working to tight internal and external deadlines within an evolving regulatory framework, the post holder is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of Payroll for monthly paid employees, delivering a professional and consistent service.
Main Responsibilities
Payroll Management
* Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll process for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timely payments
* Ensure compliance with GDPR and Internal Retention Policies
* Conduct month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations
* Maintain strong internal relationships within HR and across the business
* Collaborate with the Senior HR Manager to maintain the HR/Payroll System (Workday)
* Manage relationships with third-party providers
* Support year-end payroll processes
Benefits Administration & Compliance
* Work with HR to maintain the benefits platform including monthly pension management
* Ensure payroll and year-end reporting obligations related to benefits comply with legislation
Employee Support & Process Improvement
* Serve as the first point of contact for employee payroll queries, offering clear and professional responses and resolutions
* Provide payroll-related communications to employees including payslip breakdowns and any process changes
* Regularly review payroll processes to identify opportunities for optimisation and efficiency
* Support HR with any compensation and benefit related activities such as the Annual Pay Award
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed for the Job
* CIPP member with an IPP Foundation Degree in Payroll Management, or equivalent experience
* Extensive knowledge of Payroll systems, tax legislation, controls and compliance
* Proven ability to manage Payroll projects and meet tight deadlines
* Strong attention to detail
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with staff at all levels
* Experience in improving Payroll systems
* Strong IT proficiency, specifically with Microsoft Excel
* Experience with Payroll/HCM systems - ideally Workday
* Knowledge of Pension Auto-Enrolment, Group Income Protection, Statutory Payments and National Minimum Wage regulations
