SENCO Responsibilities Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision, ensuring high-quality support for pupils with additional needs. Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement effective strategies for students with SEND. Oversee the creation and implementation of EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans), ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Monitor and assess the progress of SEND students, implementing targeted interventions where necessary. Provide training and guidance to staff on inclusive teaching strategies and best practices. Foster positive relationships with parents and guardians, keeping them informed of their child’s progress and support strategies. Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement whole-school SEND policies. Stay up to date with changes in SEND legislation and best practices, ensuring the school remains compliant and at the forefront of inclusive education. SENCO Requirements ✔ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. ✔ National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it. ✔ Proven experience working with children with SEND in a primary school setting. ✔ Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation. ✔ Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills. ✔ A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive school environment. ✔ Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
