Job description
The Amber Foundation offers supported accommodation to homeless, unemployed and disadvantaged young people (aged 18 to 30) who are facing multiple disadvantages including lack of training, education and employment, addiction and substance misuse problems, mental health difficulties, and may have been involved in crime and offending behaviour.
We are looking for a part-time permanent Youth Support Worker for a weekly Saturday night shift and Sunday day shift.
This role is based in Ashford, Kent, TN24 9QP.
Responsible to: Senior Team Leader and Service Manager
Salary: £9,035.26 per annum plus an overnight sleep-in allowance of £40 per night shift. The salary is based on 14.75 hours per week.
We deliver a full-time and residential employability and well-being programme to young people designed to support them into independent accommodation and employment, training, or education by the end of their stay.
The role of the Youth Support Worker is to work proactively, creatively, and effectively alongside our young people to develop their skills and strengths and help them to gain the confidence they need to live independent and fulfilling lives. You will be expected to work on a group and one-to-one basis with our residents and offer informal support, advice, and guidance. As a Youth Support Worker, you will contribute to the smooth and safe running of the centre by providing consistency and reliability. This will involve recording incidents, accidents, and safeguarding issues, completing domestic and operational tasks, and sharing information with relevant colleagues. You will also undertake housing management and health and safety-related tasks as required.
Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and monitor the activities of youth participants.
2. Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to youth.
3. Plan and implement engaging and educational activities for youth.
4. Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
5. Maintain accurate records of attendance and program participation.
6. Collaborate with other staff members to create a positive and inclusive environment.
Experience:
1. Previous experience working with youth in a similar setting is preferred.
2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Ability to establish rapport with youth from diverse backgrounds.
4. Knowledge of youth development principles and best practices.
5. Ability to handle challenging behaviours and resolve conflicts effectively.
6. Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and schedules.
