Your new role: Working within their Water Division based out of Cambridge and covering their Southern region operating within the water and wastewater infrastructure sector, they are now looking for a Commercial Manager to join the team. The Commercial Manager is a high energy and rewarding role, where you will be responsible for all commercial functions required to support successful delivery of their contract requirements and internal performance targets. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the role will initially be focused on supporting and guiding the operational team to develop and implement processes and procedures to deliver targeted improvements set out by the Commercial Director. Additionally, a key element of the role is to forge a strong relationship with your client counterparts, to ensure the commercial functions are jointly managed with relevant challenge when required, whilst ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and principles.
Key duties and responsibilities:
1. To assist and advise the contract management team on commercial influences around cost and value reporting and changes required to ensure profit targets are met.
2. To ensure all client and client processes are followed to minimise WIP (outstanding cash) and keep WIP within the contract and business target.
3. Attend Monthly Commercial Meetings both internally and with clients.
4. To support preparation of Contract Budget Forecasts, including the review of contract specific margin improvement plans to maximise profitability.
5. To be an effective negotiator at both internal and client levels, and being able to demonstrate the ability and attitude to liaise with staff at Director Status.
6. To produce Weekly and Monthly CVR's and to present both to the Business Director providing a clear narrative with supporting evidence where need to explain in period movements and future risks and opportunities.
7. To ensure procurement and management of sub-contractors and other suppliers aligns with the strategies set out by the Contract Director and that internal governance steps are followed in all circumstances.
8. Provide Workstream level input into cash flow and aged debt reporting.
9. To implement new processes as set out by the Business Director and Commercial Director and where appropriate identify and provide feedback on existing process risks both in terms of compliance and fitness for purposes.
10. To be the escalation point in the Early Warning and Compensation Event process.
11. To support the team with any adjudication matters.
12. To support with commercial bidding matters for contracts when / if required.
13. To support with any Contract Changes including identifying key data points and providing assurance on the accuracy of the same.
What you'll need to succeed:
1. Knowledge of service delivery within the utilities sector.
2. Detailed knowledge, understanding, and previous experience of NEC contracts, experience in a capital delivery and capital maintenance space would be beneficial.
3. Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CIOB) would be beneficial.
4. Relevant Hons Degree level qualification or equivalent.
