Trinity are hiring an Engineer to install/commission customers' fire alarm systems and associated equipment in line with the current regulations, liaising with the Works department/Project Managers to ensure best practice and the most cost-effective solution. To support other engineers to ensure that they are competent to complete the work allocated to them and follow all Company and Health and Safety practices and procedures. To work as a team with colleagues and the Engineering team to build on the company's reputation in quality and customer service.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Undertake the commissioning of fire detection and other associated systems provided that adequate training has been received to be competent in the associated products, to ensure that the system meets the specified requirements for the project.
2. Liaise at all times with the Project Manager responsible for the delivery of the project.
3. Carry out all other necessary works required at customer premises in accordance with the Company's quality standards.
4. Effectively communicate with customers to ensure a good understanding of system and site status, particularly system defects that affect its correct function.
5. Provide technical support and guidance to allocated Engineers.
6. Liaise with the administrators to ensure commitments are met.
7. Competence to review a programme of works and RAMs.
Key Competencies of Experienced Jobholder Skills:
1. Able to commission a fire detection and alarm system in line with manufacturers' recommendations.
2. To ensure that as-installed drawings tally with the finished project and communicate any variances to the Project Manager.
3. Able to fully test every aspect of the installed system in line with manufacturers' recommendations and the project specification.
4. Able to identify all types of cable associated with fire detection and alarm systems and to correctly test and terminate the cable ends in accordance with manufacturers' instructions.
5. Able to develop and diagnose Cause and Effect software for the relevant control equipment, and to plan a full C & E test as part of the commissioning process.
6. Able to operate all required test equipment.
7. Demonstrates a logical approach to system fault diagnosis and rectification.
8. Understands different types of cable containment systems.
9. Deals with customers, end-users, construction personnel, and in-house staff in a professional manner.
10. Verbal and written communication skills.
11. High level of ability in the use of bespoke manufacturers' software programmes and Windows-based computer usage.
Technical Knowledge:
1. Has a sound knowledge of control and field equipment and be able to carry out commissioning, fault rectification, and repairs.
2. Understands the basic building service systems, e.g., air conditioning ventilation systems.
3. Has a comprehensive understanding of the causes and cures of fire alarm problems, including an ability to recommend changes to practices and processes that may cause false alarms as well as changes to the fire detection and alarm system.
4. Completed numerous units of FIA.
5. Manufacturer trained for whatever equipment expected to operate.
6. All conventional fire alarm systems.
7. Ideally a qualified electrician (City & Guilds 236 Pt2, Pt3) or equivalent.
8. Other supervisory training as the Company decides.
Standards:
1. Conversant with the appropriate servicing and installation clauses within the relevant parts of BS 5839 P1 2017 & Building Regulations and be capable of applying these standards to the commissioning of the system.
2. To operate business processes within the framework of ISO 9001 and LPS1014.
