We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Learning Science to join a thriving secondary school in Northampton.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop a dynamic Science department, driving excellence in teaching and learning.\n\nThe Role:\nWe are looking for a motivated and forward-thinking Director of Learning Science to oversee the Science department and ensure the highest standards of education for students at KS3 and KS4 levels. In this Temp role, you will be responsible for leading a team of Science teachers, developing the curriculum, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. This role has the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nLead and manage the Science department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.\n\nDevelop and implement an engaging and challenging Science curriculum that meets national standards.\n\nSupport and mentor Science teachers, providing guidance on best teaching practices and professional development.\n\nMonitor and assess students’ progress, using data-driven strategies to enhance student achievement.\n\nFoster a positive and inclusive learning environment that inspires curiosity and a love for Science.\n\nCollaborate with senior leadership to drive school-wide academic success.\n\nEngage with parents, guardians, and external stakeholders to support student progress and departmental goals.\n\nMinimum Requirements:\nTo be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:\n\nExperience: At least 3-5 years of teaching experience in a secondary school, with a strong background in Science education.\n\nQualifications: A relevant degree in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.\n\nLeadership Experience: Previous experience as a Head of Department, Subject Lead, or in another leadership role within a Science faculty.\n\nTraining: Experience in curriculum development, staff mentoring, and department management.
Familiarity with safeguarding policies and procedures.\n\nSkills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate both students and staff.\n\nTo be considered for the higher end of the salary bracket, candidates should demonstrate:\n\nProven Leadership: A track record of successfully leading and improving a Science department or team.\n\nOutstanding Teaching Practice: A history of excellent student outcomes in Science at GCSE and A-Level.\n\nStrategic Development: Experience in implementing innovative teaching strategies and curriculum enhancements.\n\nCommitment to CPD: Ongoing professional development in Science education, including leadership training or specialist certifications.\n\nLocation:\nThis role is based in Northampton within a well-established secondary school.
