Job Description
To maintain a high level of airfield and apron safety, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and local management instructions. In addition, to deliver high standards of customer service to internal and external customers and business partners through the efficient operation of the Airport Control Centre whilst combining this with effective and accurate stand allocation, flight and airfield information services.
Principle accountabilities
* Work with the SIAL Security Management Team to promote the Security Management System (SeMs) culture within the department and across the wider airport campus with a focus on adherence to the principles within the SIAL Security Policy. Provide or seek guidance from SIAL Security to encourage the team to report all suspicious or security related incidents in a timely manner to Security, Police or Airport Duty Manager. Cascade all relevant security related information to the team in a timely manner including advice in response to security related incidents.
* Ensure that safety is given the highest priority at all times in meeting operational standards through inspection and audit, ensuring that fault reporting and follow-up actions are recorded.
* Carry out regular safety inspections of the airfield (runways, taxiways, grass areas, and aprons) ensuring that all hazards to aircraft operation or personnel are identified, recorded and acted upon as necessary.
* Check the serviceability of lighting systems both on and off the airfield and report any off-airfield hazards to aircraft such as cranes, or other obstructions.
* Provide marshalling assistance and safety escorts to aircraft as required and assist with additional safety related functions relating to the safe operation of the airfield.
* Assist and escort emergency services and control authorities and provide support during accident and emergency situations.
* Maintain an enhanced knowledge on the correct operation of all live systems present in the Airport Control Centre including the operation of Chroma Fusion and Chroma Assign along with other operational systems using information obtained from ATC, airlines, handling agents and other business partners and amend/relocate stands as necessary on a real time basis responding to changing operational needs and priorities.
* Monitor and manage the conduct and safety of all contractors and engineers working airside, carry out site hand over inspections and ensure that all relevant safety documentation and permits are in order.
* Ensure that all personnel working airside comply with statutory instructions and local airport notices and take appropriate action to maintain high standards of safety airside and minimise the environmental impact of airside operations primarily by monitoring standards of vehicle maintenance and through the prudent use of anti-icing chemicals.
* Promote close liaison with internal and external customers and business partners to foster co-operation in all areas, particularly with regard to airfield safety. Ensure Airfield Operations delivers a customer focused and professional service and listens and understands customers’ concerns and motives. Disseminate important information regarding the operational status of the airfield and other safety advice to a wide range of customers and business partners.
* During winter operation conditions provide assistance to the Airfield Operations Supervisor as required, returning the airfield as quickly as possible to a fully operational condition. Undertake runway surface friction tests, disseminating the results to ATC and Airfield Operations and undertake the de-icing/anti-icing operations in an efficient and effective manner when instructed to do so.
* Develop solutions to issues raised with due regard to safety and other operational and environmental constraints. Monitor the activities of all airside operators and, in accordance with CAP 642 and local safety procedures, investigate all incidents and accidents airside.
* Communicate effectively at all levels both verbally and in writing.
* Deputise for the Airfield Operations Supervisor as and when required.
* To co-operate with a number of organisations and operational departments including Police, UK Border Force, Airport Fire service, Security, Engineering and the Terminal team.
* Provide key support during operational emergency situations, assisting to allocate staff to primary locations and liaising with the Airport Duty Manager and Airfield Operations Supervisor to ensure a safe and efficient process and return to normal operations as quickly as possible.
* Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external bodies to ensure an effective integrated response to emergency situations and promote a professional image of AGS Airports Limited.
* Disseminate relevant information to internal and external customers as required regarding the operational status of the airfield and other safety advice.
* Complete documentation, recording incidents in a clear and concise manner as required.
* Read and adhere to Safety Notices, Operations Directors Notice’s, Operations Directors Directive’s and Staff Operating Procedure’s in order to ensure compliance with Company Health and Safety Policies, taking personal responsibility for employing safe working practices to minimise risk to self, work colleagues and customers.
* To participate in projects and working parties and to carry out other duties that may be outside the standard remit for the purpose of personal development or which may be reasonably required by the company.
* Carry out passenger bus driving duties where required.
* Carry out bird hazard checks within a 13km area to the airfield as defined by audits and standards checks
* Escorting of 3rd parties for on airfield safety and environmental inspections
* Promote and drive performance with regards to airline turn around performance to include On Time Performance, stand planning and passenger movement.
Qualifications and experience
* Applicants must have a current full UK EC/EEA or foreign equivalent driving licence which permits the holder to drive a motor vehicle on public roads in the UK.
* All staff will need to develop and demonstrate a working knowledge of the airside operations and must be able to maintain high levels of concentration and remain focused during periods of high activity.
* Basic IT skills are essential and knowledge of Southampton Airport operating systems is desirable.
* Ability to communication with a wide range of customers is essential.
* Ability to hold CTC clearance.
Framework and boundaries
Operates within EASA and Civil Aviation Authority rules and regulations, Southampton Airport safety and security manuals.
Decisions over airside safeguarding matters will be taken in conjunction with a Airside Operations Manager, the Airport Duty Manager and other qualified parties, as required.
