Band 8a Clinical Inpatient Services Matron
Fixed Term: 12 Months
We are looking for an experienced midwife seeking a new and exciting challenge to join our existing team of matrons in leading our Inpatient maternity Service at our Basingstoke acute site.
If you are an existing band 8a looking for a change or a band 7 looking for your next role, we offer extensive training and development.
You should be experienced in managing a team and have held a previous role including line management duties.
You will be expected to contribute to the Matron on Call roster every 8 weeks.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Matron for Inpatient Services (CM) has 24-hour accountability for the postnatal and antenatal ward. Within this remit, they will provide clinical, professional, and managerial leadership positively impacting the quality of care, culture of the workforce, staff engagement, efficiency, effectiveness, and performance of their area.
The CM will be responsible for ensuring patients receive high quality, evidenced-based compassionate care.
The CM will ensure that staff are supported and developed to deliver high quality care in accordance with the Trust values.
The CM will have enhanced clinical skills and provide clinical expertise both within their own clinical environment and across the organization as necessary to support the Organisational Strategy in the achievement of professional, operational, and clinical governance objectives. This will involve being responsible for the development and implementation of service improvement and/or policies in their area of expertise.
Whilst working closely with the multi-disciplinary team, you will provide a significant focus on improving the experience and care for women, be responsible for development and implementation of service improvement, and have 24-hour accountability for all inpatient services and ward areas.

Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
* Registered Midwife
* Evidence of CPD
* Mentorship qualification or equivalent (i.e. PS/PA)
* Quality Improvement training at Bronze level (or equivalent)
* Educated to Masters level
* Quality Improvement training at Silver level (or equivalent)
Experience and Knowledge
* Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience
* Previous experience of leading a team
* Previous experience of quality improvement
* Experience of managing a team
* Experience of managing a budget
Skills and Ability
* Passionate about the provision of excellent patient care with the ability to ensure that the delivery of care by all staff is of the highest standard and appropriate in meeting the needs and expectations of the patients and their relatives
* To work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team
* Advanced clinical expertise in chosen field with the proven ability to fully understand the context in which complex problems arise and to coordinate multi-disciplinary unit-wide interventions, often looking at problems from a unique or different angle
* Understanding of effective clinical governance, audit, performance, and quality indicators
