Will provide operational management to ensure efficient day-to-day running of the department, clinics, and surgery.
To ensure delivery of specialist skilled nursing support and knowledge to clinicians in the treatment and care of patients.

Professional Duties
1. It is essential for the post holder to have obtained the National Examining Board Qualification for Dental Nurses or a certificate of proficiency awarded by a dental hospital and follow their code of ethics.
2. To be registered with the General Dental Council.
3. Carry out all duties within the Trust policy framework under the supervision of the consultant/medical team. Report any difficulties encountered.
4. Foster good relationships with the multidisciplinary team, patients, and visitors to the department. Contribute to achieving high morale.
5. To promote the perception by patients and their carers of a safe, professional, caring, friendly, and informative atmosphere while attending for treatment.
6. Post-qualification certificates in conscious sedation is essential. Radiology is desirable.
7. Prepare theatre and surgical trays for operations carried out under local anaesthetic/sedation, following aseptic technique in accordance with Trust guidelines.
8. Assisting the medical/surgical team and acting as a theatre/scrub nurse, which requires a high level of concentration and physical effort. You will be required to stand in a restricted position for long periods of time, especially during complex cases.
9. Ensure correct handling, labelling, and dispatch of laboratory/pathology specimens.
10. To undertake extra-oral suture, staple removal, and dressing changes under the supervision of clinicians.
11. Participate in extending skills of clinical practice when appropriate, taking intraoral radiographs.
12. Participate in the nurse-led pre-assessment clinics for sedation admissions.
13. Take blood samples, INR and blood glucose testing.
14. Collaborate and liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team, including the head & neck cancer specialist nurse and other specialities.
15. Be competent in the management of outpatient clinics using the electronic patient records system (EPR).
16. You may be asked to work in other areas of the trust within your skill set.
17. Attend statutory Trust Policy training annually.
18. Be aware of the Complaints Policy and report appropriately any untoward occurrence in relation to this.
19. Follow clinical risk incident procedure and reporting systems.
20. Liaising with other departments.
21. Supervise and mentor new members of staff within the department.
22. Conduct daily team briefs and comply with nurse in charge duties to ensure the smooth running of the department when necessary.
