Specialist Setting Teaching Assistant
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our dedicated team in a Specialist Setting as a Teaching Assistant. Are you passionate about making a profound impact in the lives of children with special educational needs (SEN)? Do you want to work in an environment where your efforts truly help students thrive, grow, and overcome challenges in ways that matter most to them?
At Sense Education, we specialise in matching passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistants with specialist school settings that provide a safe, nurturing, and highly tailored environment for students with complex needs, including autism, severe learning disabilities, and physical disabilities. As part of Sense Education, you’ll be part of supportive teams that focus on the individual needs of each child, ensuring they receive the personalised support required to thrive both academically and emotionally.
Why Choose to Work in a Specialist School Setting?
Working in a specialist setting offers a distinct, rewarding experience. Here, you’ll have the chance to:
* Make a lasting impact: You’ll provide one-to-one and small group support to children with specific and complex needs, enabling them to achieve their full potential. Whether it’s assisting with sensory regulation, supporting communication needs, or helping children gain life skills, your role will be integral in helping students thrive.
* Personalised learning environment: Unlike mainstream schools, where the focus is often on general classroom management, specialist settings tailor the curriculum to each student’s needs, ensuring that every child gets the support they need to succeed. Your work will directly contribute to a specialised curriculum that prioritises life skills, emotional regulation, and academic progress.
* Collaborative, nurturing team: You will work alongside a dedicated team of teachers, therapists, and support staff, with specialised expertise in working with children who have a range of complex needs. You’ll receive hands-on training in alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS), sensory circuits, and behavioural support techniques, giving you the tools to truly support every student.
* Every day is different: The role will provide a variety of rewarding challenges that will allow you to grow professionally and personally. No two days are the same, and you’ll have the opportunity to witness tangible progress in the students you support.
What You Will Gain:
* Specialist experience in working with children with SEN, including autism, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavioural challenges.
* Professional development opportunities, with training in SEN support methods and therapeutic interventions.
* The chance to work in a unique learning environment where every child’s needs are a priority and where your work truly shapes their future.
* A role that is both challenging and fulfilling, where you will see real progress in the students you work with.
* The opportunity to develop your career and advance in the education sector, with the possibility of permanent opportunities and advancement within the school.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide personalised support for students with SEN, helping them to engage in the curriculum and make progress toward their goals.
* Support sensory regulation through the use of sensory circuits, sensory rooms, and individualised strategies tailored to each child’s needs.
* Foster a safe and nurturing environment where students feel encouraged, respected, and able to express themselves.
* Assist teachers with documenting progress and ensuring students have the tools and support they need to succeed.
* Collaborate with therapists, specialists, and colleagues to ensure the best outcomes for each child, implementing strategies to meet the goals set in Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs).
The Ideal Candidate:
* A genuine passion for working with children who have special educational needs and a desire to make a difference in their lives.
* Experience or understanding of working with children with autism, learning disabilities, or other complex needs is beneficial but not essential.
* Patience, kindness, and the ability to work flexibly to meet the changing needs of children.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Teaching Assistant qualification, Early Years qualification, or Childcare qualification, Health and Social Care qualification, Care Qualification.
What We Offer:
* Competitive salary and weekly pay.
* Part-time and full-time positions available.
* Professional development and training opportunities to help you grow and excel in your role.
* A supportive, collaborative environment, where every member of the team is committed to the students’ success.
* The chance to work in an inspiring, rewarding role where you can see the direct impact of your hard work on students’ lives.
Hours:
* Full-time or part-time (Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM)
