The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical, mechanical, and plumbing engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Engineering Manager - Mechanical to join us. You should be experienced, time served, and suitably qualified in mechanical engineering maintenance, fault finding, and repairs. Ideally you will have trained to NVQ Level 4/HNC level or above.
You should be proficient in all aspects of mechanical plant and equipment on an industrial scale. Healthcare experience would be advantageous but not essential - as full training will be given.
Flexible working and the ability to participate in an on-call rota is required.
Main duties of the job
* The successful candidate will be responsible for the mechanical infrastructure at Furness General Hospital and Millom Hospital, including taking on the role of Lead Mechanical AP (Authorised Person), Lead Ventilation AP, Lead Water Safety AP, and managing a team of deputy AP's.
* Manage internal and external labour ensuring compliance with HTM and H&S regulations.
* Manage all mechanical aspects of property maintenance for trust properties and other organisation’s properties on behalf of the Trust.
* Supervise and carry out line manager duties for Estates Officers.
* Participate in the training of junior management staff to ensure they receive work experience, upskilling, and competency based task training.
* Efficiently manage a departmental budget and labour management system for your discipline and deputise for other Estates managers as required.
* Assist, and deputise for, the Estates Manager as required.
* Carry out Estates surveys, manage minor project and capital works, and assist in the monitoring of energy usage.
* Fully IT literate, an excellent communicator, and able to identify, manage, and communicate risk to senior management including members of the trust board.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Recognised craft apprenticeship or equivalent training and relevant certification
* Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
* Recognised H&S qualification
* Authorised Person for specialist NHS HTM disciplines
* Corporate membership of an appropriate body
Experience
* Staff management and leadership
* A thorough knowledge of statutory and mandatory regulations
* A thorough knowledge of HTM 01 to 08
* Relevant experience of working in healthcare

* Excellent communication on all levels
