About Us
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of over 1,416 employees and over 31,000 volunteers, united by our goal of saving lives through essential first aid services, training, and campaigning. As a charity with rich heritage and a long history of serving humanity, we are proud of our past and excited about creating a healthier, safer, more resilient future.
St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response & Nighttime Economy) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, NHS Cadets, and Young Responders programmes). There is also a buoyant social enterprise network which delivers first aid training and supplies medical consumables to businesses and consumers.
This is an exciting time of transformation with an opportunity to lead and mature the charity’s data maturity by leading a new data strategy.
Job Summary
As a Community Volunteering Officer, you will play a key role in supporting volunteer activities and driving the growth of Community First Aid Networks across your area. Your work will focus on creating high-quality volunteer opportunities, supporting operational activities such as clinical and community engagement sessions, and helping build first aid confidence within local communities. Working closely with network and county leadership teams, you will be responsible for recruiting and inducting volunteers, supporting the delivery of impactful community education programmes, engaging young people, and strengthening local partnerships. You will also support local fundraising efforts, enhance public awareness of St John’s activities, and ensure St John Ambulance has a meaningful presence in the communities that need it most. This role requires strong organisational and people skills, as you will be tracking performance, ensuring our volunteering programmes run safely and effectively, and helping volunteers navigate internal systems. As the first point of contact for St John in your area, you will act as a champion for diversity, inclusion, and best practices, ensuring volunteers feel supported and valued.
Working as part of a team will be key to this role; you’ll not only work with our volunteer leadership network but also as part of a small regional staff support team. With mixed workload amongst all of these teams, you’ll get a chance to make a difference in a few areas of our charity whilst learning at the same time.
If you are passionate about volunteering, community engagement, and making a real impact, we’d love to hear from you!
