Job summary
The function of the senior research nurse is to demonstrate critical thinking in clinical and administrative decision making. They will initiate and co-ordinate research projects in addition to running the Barts Bioresource. They will also act as co-ordinator and adviser to the other members of the team, patients and hospital staff. They will assist in the support of the Barts Bioresource Research (BBR) project within the Barts Heart Centre (BHC) working within the multi- disciplinary team. The post holder will take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of research studies covering the BHC portfolio, but will be specifically allocated to the BBR and National Institute Health Research Bioreosource (Generic and Rare) within Barts Health NHS.
The postholder will be allocated to areas specific to the Bioresource, however will also be expected to be flexible and on occasion may have to cover sites based on caseload and capacity to take on extra work. As well as working with clinical investigators, you will also work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary care teams involved in the management of clinical trial patients on studies to which you are assigned.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the Barts BioResource is to establish and grow a dynamic health data repository and linked biobank of consented patients managed by Barts Health NHS Trust to allow research into health and disease. The Barts BioResource relies on the donation of human blood, saliva, swabs, urine, faeces and soft/solid tissue.
The post is based at St. Barts Hospital London and will operate across the Barts NHS Trust Hospitals and subject to successful completion of DBS check. It is full time ( hours per week) and fixed term for 6 months in the first instance, with the potential to extend to 2028.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Registered Nurse, Degree in life sciences or related field Current certificate in ICH-GCP
Desirable
2. ALS/ILS or equivalent Research qualification
3. Possession of/working towards a masters degree
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
4. Substantive post registration nursing or post degree experience
5. An understanding of Research Governance, EU Clinical Trials Directive and Good Clinical Practice and evidence of effective approaches to implementation
6. Awareness and involvement in the audit process
Desirable
7. Demonstrate an understanding of national research networks
8. Clinical trials experience.
9. Experience in Cardiology Nursing or other relevant area for at least 1 year.
