Electrical Design Engineer
Job Overview:
An opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Design Engineer to contribute to the design, development, and testing of electrical control systems for a range of high-tech equipment. The role involves selecting appropriate control hardware to ensure cost-effective and scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop control specifications for new products or modifications to existing ones.
2. Design electrical circuits for the development and production of machinery using ePLAN or similar electrical design software.
3. Generate build documentation and parts lists for procurement and production.
4. Create commissioning procedures to facilitate smooth product transfer to production and service teams.
5. Collaborate with end users, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure accurate design, testing, and installation.
6. Investigate system issues arising from testing, acceptance, or operational use.
7. Work with electrical suppliers to identify cost-effective solutions.
8. Contribute to the continuous development of electrical and mechanical design standards.
9. Stay updated on relevant electrical control system standards, including EN60204, ISO 13849, and EN12100.
10. Understand and design solutions to meet the dynamic requirements of wire processing systems.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Minimum HND or degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering.
2. Strong background in electrical, controls, and automation engineering, particularly in designing and developing complex machinery or systems.
3. Experience in the full product life cycle, from specification to development, build, testing, deployment, and support.
Skills & Attributes:
1. Expertise in new product introduction, design, build, commissioning, and testing.
2. Knowledge of electrical machine/control panel design, considering risk assessment and safety standards (EN12100, EN60204, EN13849).
3. Experience with electrical drawing packages (preferably ePLAN).
4. Ability to produce parts lists, wire schedules, and cable schedules for procurement and assembly.
5. Familiarity with servo amplifiers, stepper drive systems, and DC/AC drive systems.
6. Experience in specifying sensor types such as proximity sensors and through-beam sensors.
7. Capability to create Functional Design Specifications and I/O Specifications.
8. Bonus Skills: Experience with robotics, vision systems, practical electrical builds, and diagnostic tools.
9. Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic project environment.
10. Willingness to travel and visit customers if required.
11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
