We are seeking a Production Manager for a niche and leading engineering company within their field, specialising in the design, manufacture, and installation of bespoke electrical and steel solutions. Their product range includes large-scale projects such as hangar doors for airports, shipyard installations, and barrier entry, turnstiles and electronic gates for residential and commercial properties. They deliver a high-quality, bespoke and custom-engineered steel solutions to a diverse client base including the private and public sector. The role is permanent, Monday - Friday with hours of work usually 8am - 5pm. Job Overview An experienced and hands-on Production Manager is sought to join the team as it prepares for the next stage of its growth journey. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our manufacturing facility, driving operational efficiencies, and ensuring high standards of production quality. You will be instrumental in managing the shop floor, motivating staff, and ensuring the retention of a skilled workforce. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, particularly within steel fabrication, and will be familiar with reading technical drawings, welding processes, and electrical wiring. Evidence of progression would be beneficial. You will also play a key role in warehousing, manufacturing, and process improvements to streamline production whilst identifying efficiencies in the manufacturing processes. This will require strong people skills where changing of habits and practices maybe required. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership: Manage the production team, ensuring that manufacturing targets are met on time and within budget. Shop Floor Management: Oversee daily operations on the shop floor, ensuring staff are working efficiently and adhering to safety standards. Technical Competency: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, with hands-on knowledge of welding, steel fabrication, and basic electrical wiring. Process Improvements: Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and increase productivity. Team Management: Motivate and lead a diverse team of production staff, fostering a positive working environment and encouraging team collaboration. Staff Retention: Ensure high levels of staff morale, implementing strategies for retaining talent and reducing turnover. Warehousing & Inventory: Oversee the storage, handling, and management of materials and products, ensuring that inventory levels are maintained for smooth production. Health & Safety: Ensure all health and safety regulations are adhered to across the production process. Reporting & Communication: Provide regular updates and reports to senior management regarding production status, challenges, and operational improvements. Key Requirements Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a production management role within an engineering or steel manufacturing company. Previous experience on the shop floor of an engineering company in the UK is essential. Technical Skills: Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings. Hands-on knowledge of welding and electrical wiring. Leadership & People Skills: Strong people management and team-building skills, with a proven track record of motivating and retaining staff. Process Improvement: Demonstrated experience in driving operational efficiencies, implementing process improvements, and optimizing manufacturing performance. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff and senior management. Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence is required for this role. Desirable Skills Experience in warehousing and inventory management within a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement processes. Familiarity with project management software and systems used in manufacturing settings.
