Job Responsibilities:
1. Take charge of a ward regularly and accept duties delegated by the Ward Manager.
2. Responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality evidence-based care and providing clinical expertise to staff via clinical supervision and training, as well as support for patients.
3. Provide senior nursing, leadership, and managerial support and advice to the clinical area.
4. Support management of a clinical area including deployment, supervision, teaching of staff/students, and resources.
5. Assess individual care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care, setting standards of care across clinical areas.
6. Actively participate in the hospital bleep holding rota.
7. Participate in coordinating emergency response to fire, security alerts, cardiac arrests, and other clinical emergencies.
8. Report, escalate, and act upon issues appropriately.
9. Provide nursing assessments of referred patients to determine suitability for acute medical and rehabilitation needs.
10. Act as the prime provider of care, practicing clinical skills for allocated patients by planning, assessing, and designing nursing interventions and patient programmes of care.
11. Prepare for, participate in, and attend ward rounds and other multi-professional meetings.
12. Ensure high standards of nursing in the application of clinical nursing procedures and treatments, including custody, storage, and administration of medicines.
13. Maintain personal contact with patients and their relatives to ensure understanding of treatments and arrangements.
14. Be responsible for the immediate management and clinical supervision of all junior staff throughout each span of duty.
15. Ensure staff follow clinical area and Trust policies and procedures.
16. Ensure all staff comply with legislative and statutory requirements, e.g., Health and Safety at Work Act, Food Hygiene, etc.
17. Assist the Ward Manager in the appraisal of junior staff.
18. Act in accordance with current disciplinary, grievance, and complaints procedures.
19. Participate in the recruitment of clinical staff up to Band 5.
20. Assist the Ward Manager in providing formal clinical supervision for all junior staff.
21. Plan duty rotas ensuring the Ward Manager of the area signs off the rotas.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered General Health Nurse educated to degree level.
* Degree level education.
* Awareness and understanding of clinical effectiveness including the audit process.
Experience
* Awareness and understanding of current issues affecting patients in acute and community settings.
* Recent experience in an acute setting.
* Awareness of the specific needs of patients.
* Direct work with health users and carers.
* Ability to fulfil the Named Nurse role for a specific group of service users.
* Ability to communicate effectively, in writing, verbally, and via IT systems.
* Ability to work under pressure to agreed deadlines and quality standards.
* Ability to safely manage/co-ordinate ward for the period of duty.
* Working with statutory and voluntary agencies.
* Acting as Supervisor/Mentor.
* A willingness to support the modernisation of services.

Salary: £37,388 to £44,962 a year (to include weekends and Bank Holidays)
