What you’ll be doing:
As a Support Engineer Apprentice, you will be involved in identifying maintenance requirements, determining the tools and spares needed for maintenance, and understanding the reliability and availability of on-board equipment.
The role involves applying engineering and logistic principles to develop solutions to support Astute, Dreadnought, and SSNA Class of Submarines and their operations. Problem-solving skills and a desire to understand engineering systems and components are beneficial.
You will develop and apply your understanding of Supportability Engineering Integrated Product Support (IPS) processes, tools, systems, and techniques, undertaking various engineering activities to meet the Engineering Technician – Technical Support apprenticeship standard while rotating through different teams. This three-and-a-half-year apprenticeship will equip you with the skills necessary to ensure the equipment we design and support can be operated and maintained safely, effectively, and efficiently. Please note that this apprenticeship is predominantly office-based.
During the apprenticeship, the main duties will involve:
* Conducting Design for Support – Ensuring designs can be supported.
* Conducting Availability and Reliability analysis – Using modeling tools to assess equipment and system reliability and availability.
* Conducting Reliability Centered Maintenance – Using approved industry toolsets to determine maintenance needs.
* Creating Initial Support Packages – Ensuring the right spares and tools are in the right locations, at the right time, in the right condition, and with the correct quantities.
* Producing digital technical information that is complete, coherent, and consistent to support operations, maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and disposal of equipment.
* Configuration Management of data and products – Understanding inventory and condition.

Our Submarines business has been delivering world-class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for over a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test, and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines, with four submarines to be delivered to the Royal Navy, the first entering service in the early 2030s.

Qualification requirements
5 GCSE A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent) including Maths, English & Science or a Technical Subject.
