Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Paediatric Dietitian with a special interest in Diabetes to join our friendly team on a 9-month fixed-term maternity cover contract, until March 2026. You will become part of a supportive team of three Paediatric Dietitians within a wider department of 17 dietitians, covering a range of specialisms including neonates, cystic fibrosis, allergy, and gastroenterology.
The team provides dietetic input across inpatient and outpatient services at Watford General Hospital. Current clinics run on Tuesdays at Hemel Hempstead Hospital and Fridays at Watford General Hospital. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in paediatric diabetes care within a dynamic and supportive team.
Main duties of the job
In this role, you will lead and continue to develop the Paediatric Diabetes service within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. You will contribute to specialist diabetes clinics, lead group education sessions, and act as a source of expertise for colleagues and patients alike.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The department actively supports the training and supervision of student dietitians and offers development opportunities for other healthcare professionals. There is potential for external course funding and ongoing professional development through our partnership with the University of Hertfordshire. We are committed to delivering a quality, evidence-based service and encourage innovation, audit, and continuous learning through regular CPD activities, journal clubs, and study sessions.
Person specification
Education and qualifications:
* Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent.
* HCPC Registered.
* Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).
* Post Graduate Study in specialist area of dietetics e.g. paediatric course.
Knowledge:
* Specialist knowledge of managing children with diabetes, in Neonatal Unit, Cystic Fibrosis, cardiac babies, gastroenterology, and food allergies.
Experience:
* Post registration clinical experience.
* Experience in paediatrics.
* Up to date knowledge of all aspects of paediatrics management of children with diabetes.
* Extensive clinical experience of working with children with diabetes and their families/carers.
* Involvement in relevant specialist interest group e.g. paediatric group.
