Senior Hardware Engineer

Hawk 3 Talent Solutions, operating as an employment agency, is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer to join our client in Ashford, Kent. They are a specialist manufacturer within their field. You will take responsibility for the electronics and firmware design of products from concept through to production taking into account requirements, timescales, cost and regulatory constraints. You will be working with colleagues across the business including product management and business development to support new commercial opportunities as well as operations, supporting technology transfer to manufacture. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team of design and development engineers working on new cutting-edge Life science and Medical products for the betterment of humanity.
The working hours are full-time, 37.5 office hours per week. The salary is competitive and dependent on experience.
Duties will include:
1. Digital/analogue Electronics and firmware design of products from concept through to production.
2. FPGA VHDL preferable.
3. System architectural design and concepts.
4. Schematic and board layout using Altium Designer CAD tool.
5. Prototype build, test, and fault finding.
6. Specification and requirements capture.
7. Hands-on soldering, fault finding.
8. EMC and electrical safety compliance support.
9. Cost Model generation, Rohs analysis and compilation.
10. Possible oversight of junior engineers.
Experience required:
1. Digital, Analogue design experience.
2. Embedded Programming Experience in ‘C’, FPGA VHDL, C++, .net, C#, java, Python, or algorithm development an advantage.
3. Familiarity with CAD for schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium preferred).
4. Some exposure to EMC compliance design techniques, accompanying equipment to test sites can be expected.
5. Knowledge of safety and EMC standards advantageous.
6. Clear concise report writing with good attention to detail.
7. Ability to take on other systems elements within a project such as thermals, optics etc an advantage.
8. Competency with Microsoft Office products.
9. Willing to take on tasks as deemed necessary for the project.
10. Good presentation and communication skills.
11. Ideally 8+ years design experience. Exceptional candidates with lower experience will be considered if evidence of outstanding ability can be demonstrated.
12. Ability to client face, conveying technical information in an easy-to-understand confident manner.
13. Hands-on, self-motivated, willing to learn and help evolve the R&D department and build an expert team.
