About the role
Futures have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Capex Buyer to join a leading, global, billion FMCG manufacturing company known for its great-tasting products!
Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will work specifically within Capex on Capital Purchases, managing key projects up to £1m. You will be setting the Capex Category strategy based on a full understanding of the business’s needs and working alongside Senior stakeholders within the business, including Directors and Non-Executive Board Members.
You will be responsible for:
1. Strategic planning, budget planning and forecast planning processes: Develop robust, long, medium- and short-term plans and provide the group with an accurate financial forecast to enable businesses to forecast effectively, working closely with the business procurement managers to execute implementation plans.
2. Best practice cost optimisation: Negotiate overall best terms, ensuring that the supply base and product meet the necessary business objectives along with a deep understanding of supply base costs.
3. Category and supplier strategies: Develop formal category strategies that demonstrate a complete understanding of the spend cube, a deep knowledge of the needs of the business, and a robust understanding of the total supply market.
4. Market intelligence: Undertake quality market intelligence gathering to enable group procurement to build a stronger position in negotiations, manage risks, and make better-informed sourcing decisions in key category areas.
5. Responsible, environmental and ethical sourcing: Challenge the business with the latest external thinking on responsible, environmental, and ethical best practices. Ensure that the category is procured from appropriate sources with an understanding of the impact of environmental, economic, and social factors along with price and quality.
6. Assured supply and business continuity: Ensure robust contingency plans are in place to manage rapid demand changes, supplier failure, product risk, commercial risk, and force majeure.
7. Supplier relationship management: Ensure appropriate supplier segmentation and management, which could involve joint strategies, top-to-top meetings, supplier scorecards, and integrated processes.
8. Supplier-led quality: Ensure the supply base is proactive in their approach to total quality (service, product, and processes) and have plans in place to maintain the highest reputation within the industry.
9. Supplier-led innovation: Create an environment to cultivate innovation opportunities from suppliers and engage with relevant business procurement managers to achieve “first to market” status, raising barriers to entry to give the business a competitive advantage.
Skills and Experience required as a Capex Buyer:
1. Minimum of 5 years experience within Buyer/Procurement dealing with Capex projects
2. Experience with an FMCG or manufacturing background
3. Strong negotiation skills and the ability to maintain professional relationships with Senior internal and external stakeholders (Director level)
4. Graduate level preferred
5. CIPS qualification preferred
6. Identifies opportunities for improvement and drives them forward
