Responsibilities
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Functions as a professional member of the Department of Psychiatry's Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) serving patients in mental health crisis in a variety of community settings across Monroe County. Collaborates with hospitals and other community institutions/groups relative to the psychosocial needs of the patient and family. Through psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, resource consultation, and brief treatment, psychosocial risk may be minimized and Emergency Department utilization decreased.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for clinical intake, assessment, planning and carrying out of psychiatric crisis interventions in the community.
2. Provides clinical leadership in the field. Exercises ingenuity and considerable independent judgment with respect to assessment and treatment of patients in the field.
3. Responsible for assessing safety of scene prior to leaving home base and accessing law enforcement services as needed to ensure safety of team in the field.
4. Involves family, natural supports and other mental health treatment providers as part of assessment process and care coordination.
5. Engages in continued staff education around multicultural factors which affect care and treatment of patients.
6. Attends weekly team meeting.
7. Shares responsibility of record keeping and documentation.
8. Participates in education and training to promote professional growth and development.
9. Participates on a rotational basis as a member of an on-call group for evening and weekend hours. Responds as necessary after hours to crises in the community.
10. Maintains current knowledge of mental hygiene law and its usage.
11. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or Nursing and 3 years of clinical experience, at least one of which must include emergency, crisis or outreach work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid New York State Driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Ability to speak Spanish, Vietnamese or be fluent in American Sign Language preferred. Training in strategic family therapy or crisis intervention preferred.
