Job Title: Yard Chargehand Location: Braintree, Essex Job Type: Full-Time Salary: £33,000 Reports To: Senior Supervisor Are you a proactive, hands-on individual with a passion for organisation, leadership, and quality control? We are looking for a Yard Chargehand to join our clients dynamic operations team at there manufacturing site in Braintree, Essex. About the Role As the Yard Chargehand, you will play a key role in preparing steelwork for projects across multiple sectors, including telecommunications, structural and architectural solutions, floodlighting, defence, and more. You will be working closely with our clients manufacturing and operations teams to ensure all steelwork is prepared to high standards—whether built or flat-packed—ready for dispatch. You’ll also be responsible for supervising a small team, maintaining a clean and organised yard, and ensuring projects stay on track to meet deadlines and quality expectations. Key Responsibilities Maintain a clean, safe, and organised yard environment Load and unload materials from lorries and trailers safely and efficiently Ensure accurate record-keeping and completion of necessary paperwork Follow and enforce health and safety procedures at all times Support the planning and coordination of day-to-day operations, including manpower, materials, and equipment availability Supervise and motivate the yard team to ensure daily tasks are completed efficiently Conduct quality checks and audits to maintain high standards Communicate effectively with internal teams to report service issues, traffic incidents, or equipment damage What We’re Looking For Strong organisational and leadership skills A practical, hands-on approach and the ability to read technical drawings (training provided) Attention to detail and a commitment to quality A positive attitude and team-first mindset Previous experience in a yard or manufacturing environment preferred, but not essential What We Offer Full training and support to develop an in-depth understanding of our product range and processes Opportunity to work on a diverse range of engineering projects, from small structures to 40-metre towers A supportive and forward-thinking working environment Career progression opportunities within a growing business If you're ready to take the next step in your career and thrive in a role where you can make a real impact, apply today
