Role Responsibility
Kent County Council is seeking people to join its three person Member Remuneration Panel. The Panel is responsible for advising the Council on the Members Allowances Scheme.
The main focus of the Panels work is to provide a report with recommendations to the Council on:
1. The amount of basic allowance payable to all 81 Members (Councillors).
2. The roles and responsibilities for which a special responsibility allowance should be payable and the amount for each such allowance.
3. Miscellaneous expenses such as travel allowances, subsistence allowances, dependent carers allowances.
4. Allowances to co-opted members.
Some understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Members and knowledge or experience of finance or local government would be helpful. Political impartiality is essential. Applicants should not be affiliated to the Council, either by membership of a local political party or group or by close association with a Councillor or employee.
Please note that this is not a full-time job, but a position with a four-year term for which an allowance will be paid. The pattern of work/workload will vary depending on whether the Panel is reviewing the scheme as a whole or part thereof. Please read the information pack and job description for further information.
Panel members are appointed to a 4-year term and the term of the current three members Panel ends on 31 October 2024. Appointments to consecutive terms are permitted.
Interviews will be held on 5th and 6th August 2024 in Sessions House, Maidstone, Kent.
