Morgan Hunt is working with a Regulatory Body in Birmingham who are looking at recruiting a Financial Controller. This is a 12-month contract role paying up to £ p/day and will offer hybrid working.
This role is part of the Financial Control team working with 4 team members including - Financial Controller; Assistant Accountant; two Accounts Assistants.
Key Responsibilities of the Financial Controller:
* Supports budget setting, government estimates, month-end/year-end close, and production of the Annual Report & Accounts.
* Engages with internal/external auditors and manages purchase/sales ledgers, staff expenses, VAT, and government data returns.
* Aids in the production of the Annual Report and Accounts and provides capital accounting support.
* Develops and implements an improved control framework, addressing audit recommendations.
* Collaborates with the Finance System team to develop and implement system reports and process improvements.
* Oversees VAT returns, balance sheet reconciliations, and reviews accounting policies, ensuring continuous improvement and modernisation of finance practices.
* Represents the Head of Finance and/or Director in their absence, fostering collaboration across finance teams.
Previous Skills and Experience of the Financial Controller:
* Must have public sector experience.
* Fully qualified CCAB candidates will be preferred.
* Financial Statements / Annual Report & Accounts preparation.
* Strong financial control process improvement reviews and implementations.
* Strong capital accounting, Excel and Financial System skills - Oracle is ideal.
