Initially 20-25 hours, working on reception you will have the opportunity to move into dispensing medications and study for a dispensing qualification should you wish.
You will work as part of a team to provide a high quality and effective receptionist service. You will learn to confidently sign post patients to external services and provide patients with completed prescriptions and taking payment where necessary.
Should you wish to move to a dispensary role we can offer full training which will allow you to become qualified to undertake the dispensing of medications for our patients within the busy dispensary department.
You must be able to work in a fast paced environment and have excellent customer care skills.
Main duties of the job
Main duties will include:
1. Front Desk & Patient Interaction
o Greeting patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
o Answering telephone calls, emails, and queries from patients.
o Booking, rescheduling, and cancelling patient appointments.
o Checking patients in and out for their appointments.
2. Administrative Tasks
o Managing patient records and ensuring confidentiality.
o Processing prescriptions.
o Updating and maintaining patient records on clinical system.
o Handling incoming and outgoing emails.
3. Communication & Coordination
o Liaising with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
o Coordinating with hospitals, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers.
4. Confidentiality & Compliance
o Ensuring patient data is handled in compliance with GDPR and medical confidentiality guidelines.
o Adhering to health and safety policies in the workplace.
5. Dispensing Medication
o Preparing and dispensing prescriptions accurately.
o Ensuring correct labelling and packaging of medicines.
o Checking prescriptions for accuracy and legality.
6. Stock Management
o Ordering, receiving, and storing pharmaceutical stock.
o Monitoring stock levels and expiry dates.
o Ensuring controlled drugs are stored and recorded correctly.
o Handling prescription queries from patients and healthcare professionals.
o Assisting with repeat prescription requests.
o Maintaining confidentiality and patient safety at all times.

Caldbeck Surgery is located on the northern edge of the Lake District National Park, and serves 4,400 patients over 100 square kilometres of rural Cumbria.
We are a team of 30 people including 5 GP partners, with a strong educational ethos.
We are part of the Keswick and Solway Primary Care Network, which covers 43,500 patients from the Solway coast to Keswick and Carlisle and work closely with other GP Practices locally.
We are a rural practice and you will require access to a car as there is no public transport.

Qualifications
* GCSE in English and Maths.
* Over 18 years old.
* Holds full driving licence and has access to a car.
* Previous experience in Reception or Dispensary work.
