Incumbent of The United Benefice of East Blatchington and Bishopstone
The Bishop of Chichester and Bishop of London (as patrons) are seeking an inspiring and pastorally-minded incumbent to lead and enthuse these two church communities nestled between the sea and the South Downs.
St Peter’s is a twelfth century church serving the seaside community of East Blatchington to the west of Seaford. Worship is predominantly liturgical and eucharistic. There are exciting opportunities to develop work with the local school and residential homes. The ancient Saxon church of St Andrew’s serves the community of Bishopstone and surrounding area as ‘the holy and historic heart of the parish’. Its worship is built around the richness of the Book of Common Prayer.
The incumbent is supported by a house for duty priest based at Bishopstone and a friendly team of retired clergy. There is also a benefice administrative assistant and capable teams of volunteers.
The five bedroom rectory is of modern construction and is situated next door to St Peter’s church.
The next incumbent will be a priest who:
* will actively foster a culture of mission through imaginative and clear articulation of the gospel;
* can inspire a rich sacramental worship focused on the eucharist;
* has a heart to nurture the faith of those on the threshold of church life;
* offers a generous and Christ-like welcome to all;
* delights in pastoral ministry;
* is able to inspire, lead and release a committed and able team of lay and ordained colleagues; and
* displays a settled and evident commitment to prayer and personal growth.
This is an exciting opportunity to continue to develop the ministry of these churches as the beating hearts of their communities.
