Reporting to the Head of Development and Application Engineering, this role is to provide additional experience and resources within the Development Engineering team. The team works on a variety of hydrogen-based research and development projects for heavy duty vehicles and machines. This role requires a track record in delivering innovative and novel solutions from an individual with flexibility and self-motivation to seize the initiative and tackle challenges head on. A clear interest in applying the latest technology within a project focused, results orientated environment is essential, alongside the ability to work as part of a team and focus on delivery with a practical hands-on approach. The primary location will be Aintree, Liverpool but travel to collaborative partners and customers in the UK and abroad may be required.
About the Role
This role is to provide additional experience and resources within the Development Engineering team. The team works on a variety of hydrogen-based research and development projects for heavy duty vehicles and machines.
Responsibilities
1. Delivery of a range of R&D projects.
2. Specification of hydrogen dual-fuel, fuel cell, H2 combustion or other systems as required.
3. Design and installation of R&D prototypes.
4. Component and system design.
5. Preparation and maintenance of R&D BOMs.
6. Set up and configuration of CAN based onboard display units and tracking systems.
7. Component specification and sourcing.
8. Data collation and analysis.
9. Wiring loom specification and design.
10. Validation testing of components and systems as required.
11. Working as part of a team on collaborative projects.
12. Writing and creation of project plans across R&D.
13. Reporting R&D project progress to internal and external stakeholders.
14. Building prototype wiring harnesses for both low and high voltage systems.
Qualifications
Engineering Degree with bias towards automotive discipline.
Required Skills
1. Relevant on the job experience with commercial vehicles.
2. Ability to read, understand and amend automotive wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
3. Ability to communicate technical data effectively both verbally and in written form at appropriate level to colleagues, technical contacts and customers.
4. Ability to produce accurate written reports.
5. Excel as a team player and strive to maximize team performance.
6. Proficiency with Microsoft applications: Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
7. Must be a “self-starter” and perform outlined tasks with limited direct supervision and able to demonstrate a high degree of initiative.
8. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
9. A willingness to travel to off-site locations for work will be necessary.
10. Full driving license.
Preferred Skills
1. Some knowledge of CAN bus systems.
2. Working knowledge of 3D CAD.
3. Working knowledge of engines and/or fuel cells.
4. Working knowledge of electric drivetrain/high-voltage systems.
5. Working knowledge of vehicle cooling systems.
