As a roadworker you will deliver a high-quality highways maintenance and construction service in order to meet the needs of our residents and keep our region safe. Based from our operating depot in Yate near Bristol, the highway maintenance team deliver civil engineering highway maintenance works across the whole network in the South Gloucestershire area.
Responsibilities
* In the role you will be supervised to prepare and carry out patch repairs on live carriageway, setting forms and laying precast concrete or natural stone kerbs, manhole construction, concreting, fencing, walling and slabbing.
* You will also undertake general digging, labouring, and loading work including general snow clearance work when required.
* Using a variety of plant and machinery such as dumpers, rollers, vibrating plate compactors, chainsaws and steel saws, it will be your responsibility to ensure that safe methods of work are taken, as instructed by your supervisor. The required PPE is also to be used at all times.
* The work environment is mainly outdoors and will include working in inclement weather conditions as well as exposure to heat and noise.
* You may be required to be available to be on-call at evenings and at weekends, on a rota basis, for emergency and planned repairs.
Minimum Requirements
* We require you to have experience and training in the use of small plant and machinery, such as dumpers, rollers, vibrating plate compactors, chainsaws and steel saws.
* Accreditation in New Roads and Street Works would be an advantage but not essential.
* Physical activity is a dominant feature of this post requiring physical strength and endurance and you will also work outdoors in all environments and weather conditions including severe winter weather.
* You must hold a driving licence.
