In keeping with our expansion plans at our Plymouth based hospital, we are soon to be launching our Sterile Services (CSSD) department enabling us to deliver an ever more swifter service to our patients.
So, we have a brand new opening for a Sterile Services Department Lead to support the Theatre Manager in ensuring a continuously compliant, safe and effective decontamination and sterile supplies service.
Main duties of the job
As the Sterile Services Department Lead, you'll be hands-on and familiar with all department work requirements, including cleaning, assessing, assembling, and packing surgical equipment, leading to sterilisation and distribution.
You'll ensure all are working in accordance with documented departmental policies and procedures and will need to address all defects identified in theatre trays and instruments accordingly.
Part of your role will be to ensure that all relevant daily validation testing is scheduled and undertaken, which needs to be recorded and documented.
You'll carry out quality checks for cleanliness and completeness of equipment before distribution. It will be part of your responsibility to identify and check all returned equipment as specified on a specification sheet, including labelling and recording for traceability.
You'll look to ensure that good communication and teamwork within the department are maintained. You will also monitor the use of PPE in the department when decontamination tasks are being undertaken.
You'll attend meetings as the department representative with internal and external enquiries. You'll have to effectively manage machine failures and downtimes through suppliers to effect repairs and ensure all loan equipment is received, logged, and ready for collection when required.

This position is permanent, working Monday to Friday with one Saturday, every other weekend.
Hours based on two shift patterns:
1. Early - 07:00 - 15:00
2. Late - 11:00 - 19:00

About us
As the Sterile Services Department Lead, you'll be leading by example in all department work requirements.
It is envisaged that the appointed Sterile Services Department Lead will be knowledgeable of sterilisation procedures and relevant decontamination practices and will have working experience within an accredited quality assurance system and knowledge of Quality Management in Sterile Processing (QMS).
You'll have led or managed a team before or successfully deputised for a senior manager, ensuring morale and motivation, providing training needs, and mentoring and coaching new staff.
You'll be an effective communicator at all levels, both written and verbal, and will have strong IT skills. You will be liaising with other departments to ensure their requirements are met.
