Apprenticeship – Technical Support: Drawing Office (Peterhead)
Experience you will gain
You will gain experience in manufacturing, the use of hand tools, understanding drawings and engineering communication. You will build skills and knowledge on our CAD (Computer Aided Draughting) and software packages and learn our procedures/practices for carrying out and verifying accurate information to the required standards.
Practical workshop experience for 3 months per year during years 2 to 4 will enhance your skills and ability. You will become competent in CAD drawing and office practices.
Overview
* Apprenticeship duration: 4 years
* The first year is spent with our partner training provider
* From years 2 to 4 apprentices will be given placements for 9 months per year in the drawing office developing skills and knowledge on our company procedures, software tools, and necessary documentation
* You will also spend 3 months in a practical workshop setting, where your practical and product knowledge can be developed and the opportunity to be immersed in dismantling, inspection, repair, assembly and testing tasks
Typical responsibilities
* Accurately take measurements of mechanical components within the workshop areas
* Produce detailed Engineering drawings to the required standard using CAD systems
* Checking and Approval of Engineering drawings or Calculations produced by other Draughtspersons
* Produce 3D Concept models using Solidworks to support CTR quotations
* Assist and support other members of the Drawing Office and Engineering teams
* Attend Project meetings when necessary; and provide Job status feedback to other Production Team Leaders at these meetings
* Any other reasonable duties as required to meet the needs of the business
Entry requirements
Our preferred applicants will hold the following qualifications:
* National 5 or equivalent in Mathematics and English
* National 5 or equivalent in three from the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Graphical Communications, Business Studies, Accounts, Art and Design, Craft and Design, Engineering Science or a relevant Skills for Work qualification
An applicant with a Foundation Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering will be deemed to meet all of the above criteria.
