We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Pharmacy Assistant to support us in the delivery of excellent hospital pharmacy services. This is an opportunity to join our friendly, committed team working in a support role in a variety of pharmacy services.
If you are interested in this post you will need previous experience of working in either a hospital or community pharmacy and have a minimum of NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy services or equivalent.
Main duties of the job
To assist in the smooth running of the assigned area of Pharmacy under direction and supervision of Senior Technicians. To dispense medicines against prescriptions or requests and prepare over-labelled packs for discharge. To monitor workflow in the distribution area, issuing stock medicines and providing a ward top up service to clinical areas.
In the Aseptic Unit, undertake tasks to assist in the smooth running of daily activities and undertake planned Aseptic work under the supervision of the Senior and Lead Technicians. In Procurement, to support all aspects of ordering medicines for use within the Trust under the direction of the Lead Technician. To maintain stock using stock rotation and stock management procedures; and process medicines returned from clinical areas.

Dispensary & Distribution
1. To interpret and dispense in-patient, outpatient, Controlled Drug and discharge prescriptions/dispensing requests, according to department procedures.
2. To participate in stock supply to wards and departments and re-order as necessary.
3. To assist pharmacists and technicians in ward-based dispensing activities.
4. To assemble orders to fill ward requisition sheets and prescriptions.
5. To participate in the assessment for suitability for recycling, of drugs returned from inside the hospital.
6. To credit cost centres with the value of returned goods as appropriate, using the pharmacy computer system.
7. To participate in the top-up service to wards & departments.
8. To participate in expiry date checking.
9. To participate in daily rolling stock checks.
10. To attend to the dispensary hatch as required, taking in prescriptions and dealing with patients, carers, visitors and members of staff.
11. To participate in Pharmacy and ward/dept. stocktaking and the maintenance of accurate stock levels.
12. To participate in the training and supervision of pharmacy assistants as required.
13. To contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in specific areas of work.
14. To provide cover for other Assistant duties if required.
Aseptic Suite
1. Ensures Aseptic Standard Operating Procedures and other Pharmacy procedures and policies relevant to the area within which they are working are adhered to ensure maintenance of pharmacy services.
2. Undergoes training and continued development in the role.
3. To participate in the top-up service to wards & departments.
4. To ensure drugs and sundries are stored neatly under the correct storage conditions and segregated accordingly.
5. To report any deviations to procedure or environmental parameters.
6. To participate in Late Night, Saturday & Bank Holiday rotas as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent in Math's and English at grade C or above
* Level 2 in Pharmacy Services including the relevant modules to undertake the Band 3 role plus previous Pharmacy experience
Experience
* Experience of working with the public
* Knowledge and experience of pharmacy processes in the specialist service area (equivalent to that of a level 3 standard)
* Previous hospital experience
