This role offers an excellent opportunity to provide technical leadership to a dedicated costs team aligned to our Property Risks and Coverage Team and servicing Costs Recoveries.
Providing strategic costs support and dealing with all aspects of their Costs work. You will be working within PRC, supported by a team leader and you will take responsibility for the development of costs handlers within the team and/or Assistants at different stages in their own careers.
You will be working with a team to adapt to any legal changes (reforms). Aside from technical excellence and attracting work, a key part of the role is the leadership, motivation, engagement and technical development of those team members and the wider Costs team.
The role also includes being an active player in the Costs Strategy Group to ensure consistency across the firm whilst supporting and liaising with Client Account Managers of clients to meet and service their strategic and training needs.
Generally engaging in activities which enhance and develop Keoghs’ Costs profile.
Key Responsibilities
Key Accountabilities.
You will provide Technical Support to the PRC Costs Team and support managing client relationships whilst running your own case load of files.
The role will include:
* Managing a caseload of high value or technically complex Costs files.
* Technical development of PRC Costs team members. To take responsibility for the technical quality of work undertaken within your team in conjunction with the Team Leader. Technical development to be through the Technical Competency Framework.
* Ensuring efficient and effective costs recovery across the business
Within the first 12 months to focus specifically on 1&2 below:-
* Develop relationships with Keoghs aligned PRC main team and Clients to attract work on an instruction-by-instruction basis.
* Identify, develop, and implement new costs initiatives, strategies, and potential products on claims you are your aligned business unit, subject to agreement and monitoring in accordance with the requirements & authorisation of the Head of Costs and the Costs Strategy Group.
The above leading to future proof the department by:-
* Developing and maintaining a high national profile within your area– evidenced by demonstrable contribution in the year such as contributing to publications created by or for your clients/the provision of material for the Costs Strategy Group/blogs/client projects/training materials.
* Exercise technical expertise in contributing to the Costs Strategy Group.
* To ensure compliance with the SRA and CLSB Code(s) of Conduct.
* Deliver growth and/or profitability as agreed with BUD and/or and adapt to any legal changes (reforms) to preserve and maintain the current revenue as agreed with BUD
* To achieve a chargeable hours per day as agreed by the BUD.
Working Hours
5 days per week.
Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch.
Primary location for this role is the Bolton Office.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* To currently be within a senior costs position or equivalent experience.
* Excellent knowledge of costs principles and case law.
* High value, Complex costs file handling experience within aligned business area, with the ability to work unsupervised.
* Proven experience in dealing with and managing strategic litigation, test cases and group litigation.
* Proven experience in identifying, developing, and executing new initiatives and strategies to combat distinct issues and behaviours and/or targeting specific organisations.
* Proven experience in ‘client facing’ responsibilities, including securing additional work.
* Proven experience in devising and delivering bespoke training internally and externally.
* Positive, confident, and enthusiastic.
