Position Title: Logistics Team Lead Location: Hartlepool Reports to: Supply Chain Manager Division / Unit / Dept: Shipping Job Objectives: Provide day-to-day leadership of the Shipping department by advising and directing the team to ensure a prompt and efficient shipping service for the Company in compliance with all transportation regulations. Scope of Position: Number of Subordinates: 3 Financial Volume: £1m transport spend PA Other Shipping: 1,500 order lines PCM Responsibilities: Strategy & Development Lead the implementation of best practice logistics vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to improve operational performance. General and Task Management Ensure regulatory compliance for the import and export of goods. Lead continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimization opportunities. Implement best practice logistics policies and procedures for the HPL & TSS sites to improve operational and financial performance. Address escalations to help resolve Shipping department issues. Attend site meetings to drive improvement in OTIF (On-Time In-Full). Ensure complaints are processed promptly. Participate in the completion of shipping documentation and order bookings. Ensure timely submission of metrics, reports, and process documentation. Assist the DGSA in the mandatory collation and reporting of dangerous goods-related matters. Serve as the subject matter expert for shipping from HPL and TSS sites. Support Procurement in carrier selection and monitor service against performance criteria. Assist in process mapping and training for ERP enhancements within the Shipping department. Maintain responsibility for the health & safety of the shipping department. Perform other duties as required within operational guidelines. People Management Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing team to meet objectives and deliver continuous improvement. Set departmental objectives/KPIs and conduct regular performance reviews. Report on target achievements and identify required actions. Ensure workload balance and adequate absence coverage within the team. Ensure the Shipping team stays up to date with legal and regulatory training requirements. Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. Requirements: Numerate and literate. Certified in Dangerous Goods by Air. Certified in Dangerous Goods by Road and Sea. Proven experience in managing a team. Demonstrated expertise in shipping hazardous chemicals. Strong time management skills. Experience in transformational change management. Excellent communication skills. Client-driven approach. Dangerous Goods trained in Air (IATA ICAO), Sea (IMDG), and Road (ADR). Collaborative mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving. Highly organised with strong diligence. Proficiency in computer applications and MS Office. Initiative-taking, flexible, and capable of meeting strict deadlines.
