This is a key post as a temporary part time (0.80 to full time) Social Sciences Teacher (i.e. a combination of the following: Psychology, Sociology, Health and Social Care), and is available from week commencing 5 May 2025 or 1 September 2025. We have two posts available. The ability to teach another subject to KS3/4/5 for which we have a need is likely to be an advantage. As a maternity cover post the contract will last for a maximum of 52 weeks or until the post holder returns should this be earlier.
The group of Social Science Post 16 subjects contains Psychology, Sociology, Health and Social Care (also taught at KS4) and Law. Teachers of these various Post 16 subjects collaborate in developing creative and effective approaches to teaching and learning. Psychology recruits particularly strongly in the Sixth Form with typically five classes in each year group. It has historically been one of our strongest performing subjects. Sociology also recruits strongly in the Sixth Form with typically four classes in each year group. A strong team of teachers contribute to these subjects with some staff teaching across both areas and others contributing to other disciplines.
We are passionate about providing opportunity for all staff to develop. The School invests heavily and productively in ensuring that staff and leaders have every opportunity to develop their expertise for the benefit of students. Professional development for staff is extremely well planned and implemented; it is linked closely to teachers’ targets for improvement.
SMRT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and so safeguarding checks will be undertaken as part of the recruitment and selection process. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced Criminal Disclosure. We welcome applicants regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or religion. It is an offence to apply for this role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
The School
St Mary Redcliffe and Temple (SMRT) is a successful and heavily oversubscribed 11-18 co-educational, Church of England, comprehensive school of over 1750 students, serving families from the whole of greater Bristol and beyond. We are located at the heart of the city and have a diverse student community with considerable parental support. Our diversity is a strength and something we celebrate. The Redcliffe Sixth Form Centre currently houses approximately 700 students from our own school and from many other schools across the City.
Inspection Reports
The School was judged in April 2015 to be outstanding by Ofsted in each and every category. We were also judged outstanding in our last church school (SIAMS) inspection in March 2017. Despite this there is absolutely no sense of complacency. We are a forward-looking school with a relentless focus on providing the absolute best provision so that no child is left behind.
