The Assistant Director of Estates Operations will lead and manage a team of over two hundred staff and contractors to deliver planned, statutory, and reactive maintenance to over 250 buildings, at one of the most beautiful and distinctive Russell Group universities. With the arrival of a new Director of Estates this spring, the department is ready to deliver service transformation and put customer service at the heart of what we do and make significant investments in maintaining our legacy buildings as well as continuing to invest in our capital programme. We are looking for a talented, experienced operations manager who can inspire and motivate a large inhouse team supported by contractors. Somebody who understands that delivering excellence in Estates management is as much about people as it is buildings. Comfortable working with and leading experts across electrical, mechanical, and building fabric services, you will be familiar with the principles of life-cycle asset-management, building infrastructure, and an expert in statutory compliance and health and safety. You will be capable of developing, reviewing and improving processes; and putting customer experience at the heart of your decision making. Role Summary To lead, manage, monitor and measure the performance of the Estates Operations and Maintenance team in the delivery of its operational and financial objectives. To deliver exceptional customer service, reliability, resilience, and efficiency in all estates related operations – whether delivered through direct labour, contractors or project managers. To ensure that all elements of Estates maintenance management are supported through competent electrical, mechanical and building fabric teams and contractors. To deliver and evidence a statutory compliant campus and identify and manage Estates related risks that could affect safety, health, reputation, financial stability, or operational performance. Person Specification Relevant degree or relevant equivalent professional qualification, plus significant project management experience (in increasingly large and/or complex projects) or substantial relevant experience evidencing the experience required in this role. Formal Project Management qualifications such as APMP, Prince2 or MSP. Authoritative knowledge of the work practices, processes and procedures relevant to the role, including broader sector/commercial awareness. Evidence of literacy and numeracy, with the ability to write clearly for a variety of audiences, and to produce and analyse source material, information and data. Proven ability to meet targets, with minimal supervision to deadlines.
