Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Formed over 20 years ago and now based in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, my clients are a successful Mechanical and Electrical building services design consultancy. They undertake projects which vary in size from £5k to £20m, with their involvement ranging from advisory roles through to contract administration. As a professional Corporate Engineer, all aspects of your sectors of work should include:
1. A capacity to develop further, sketch designs and design briefs dictated by either clients or engineering managers
2. A capacity for original thought, judgement and initiative
3. An understanding of critical awareness and innovation
4. Having full responsibility for technical and financial decisions taken, including choice of system, organisation of works and development of projects, with the ability to comply with time restrictions and limits
5. Having responsibility towards technical and other staff, including trainees
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer within the practice will be expected to report to the Principal Design Engineer. This is an important role and forms the basis for practice development.
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be expected to be competent at a high level, particularly in the following areas:
1. Have an understanding of the basic physics and design parameters associated with other disciplines.
2. Have a full and detailed understanding of the physics and design parameters on all aspects of electrical works, and be able to implement the designs, including energy assessment.
3. Be computer literate and able to assist in the preparation of drawings on CAD and ability to translate requirements to CAD Technicians.
4. Managerial responsibility for the engineering design function, including project management, preparation of the design (including supervision) and costing.
5. Be competent in the exercise of independent technical judgement and application of engineering principles, including the application of Standards, Codes of Practice and Regulations.
6. Development and initialisation of internal standards and evaluation and assessment of projects and failures.
7. Undertake survey of a building and preparation of a report on the electrical aspects of the building, including capability and compliance with Codes of Practice and Regulations and energy evaluation.
Other expectations of the Senior Electrical Design Engineer are as follows:
1. Knowledgeable concerning standard office procedures and required quality of output, including the development of internal standards and procedures

5. Maintain a proactive attitude to maintaining output to programme and time management
6. Actively pursue project and general administration
7. Maintain client liaison and client confidence
8. Project development and administration, including cost control, programmes and maintenance of quality
9. Continue your professional development in all technical areas and your knowledge on changes in Standards and Regulations.
10. Management of costs associated with projects both internally and externally
