Internal Redeployment Only - Regional Manager The International Office of Cardiff University is recruiting This is an exciting opportunity to work in a highly motivated, dynamic, strategically focused International Recruitment team. We are looking for a Regional Manager to play a key role in delivering Cardiff University’s ambitious international plans. You will formulate and co-ordinate student recruitment activities across South East Asia. You will also provide recruitment expertise on this region to Colleges and Academic Schools. Additionally, you will lead on a range of business development activities, including developing marketing campaigns, managing commercial relationships and profile-raising activities; and contribute to the development and maintenance of partnerships. This post will involve regular travel overseas (approximately 10 weeks per year), and within the UK. This post is full time, providing maternity cover until the end of January 2026. Key Duties • Develop and implement a comprehensive regional strategy focused on achieving shared regional and country-level student recruitment targets. Oversee the development and implementation of country-specific strategies and operational plans, including the development of market KPIs, working with the Head of International Recruitment. • Plan the annual cycle of recruitment visits and market campaigns, and undertake international student recruitment activities, representing the University at overseas events including exhibitions, educational institutions, and pre-departure briefings. • Develop, sustain, and manage a network of relationships with key partners overseas, including (but not limited to) student recruitment agents, ed-tech companies and agent aggregators, international sponsors and funding bodies, overseas alumni, international schools, and external organisations such as the British Council. • Make recommendations on the appointment and retention of student recruitment agents and monitor and evaluate agent performance across the region. • Identify and research opportunities for collaboration with institutions, networks, and business partners across the region, including strategic partnership development, transnational education, and bilateral and multilateral institutional links. Investigate and support new market development. • Oversee and manage a regional budget for student recruitment and marketing and make recommendations on activities and financial planning. • Provide leadership to the regional team and be accountable for the team’s approach and contribution to the overall recruitment strategy. • Hold line management responsibility for staff working within the region, including those who may be based in overseas offices. Recruit, train and manage the work of casual staff. • Provide professional advice and guidance on regional recruitment activities and opportunities to internal audiences across the University, including market intelligence and insight. • Identify and recommend new opportunities for degree programme development, brand development, promotion, and profile-raising activity. • Establish relationships with key contacts across the University’s constituent Schools, Colleges, and professional services teams, including the Development and Alumni Relations Division and Admissions team. • Work with the Admissions team to make recommendations on issues related to international admissions for the region, including setting academic equivalences and English Language requirements for specific markets. • Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve international recruitment objectives, and lead task groups as required. Contribute to projects of University-wide significance such as confirmation, clearing and adjustment, and international student induction. It covers six areas: digital communications, communications, marketing, student recruitment, international and public affairs. Digital Communications is responsible for the design, development and content of the external website and intranet. They provide tools, guidance, training and support to enable the University to communicate effectively across all digital channels. The team works closely with colleagues in all three academic colleges and constituent schools. Communications plays an important part in building and maintaining the reputation of the University through effective communication to the public and to external and internal stakeholders. It communicates the achievements and aspirations of the University through a variety of media and includes a film unit. The team represents the University on a corporate level. Marketing is responsible for developing a strong brand identity for the University at the corporate level, with an emphasis on better visual branding and market research. Student recruitment are responsible for student recruitment in the UK, EU and internationally. They work in partnership with the University’s colleges and academic schools to recruit high calibre students. The team also manages the University’s major widening participation programmes and the School’s Partnership Project. The International Office drives the University’s international recruitment strategy and advises on all areas related to international recruitment and development. Public affairs lead on stakeholder relationships locally, nationally and internationally. Essential Criteria Qualifications and Education 1. A first degree/Professional qualification/NVQ 5 or equivalent experience Knowledge, Skills, and Experience 2. Substantial experience of working within international student recruitment and/or sales and marketing. 3. Able to demonstrate expert professional knowledge within international student recruitment, including experience of recruiting international students to the Higher Education sector from multiple countries. 4. Proven experience in developing international recruitment strategies for a designated region. 5. Proven experience of developing processes and procedures to support the successful management of relationships with partners, sponsor bodies and recruitment agents. Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs, adapt the service, and set customer expectations. 8. Evidence of ability to be the external face of the University overseas and to represent the University to a range of audiences. Planning, Analysis and Problem solving 9. Evidence of ability to research and solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identify and propose both practical and innovative solutions. 10.
