Highways, Traffic and Parking is a part of the Environment and Communities Directorate under the responsibility of the Strategic Director of Planning, Growth & Infrastructure. Part of its remit is the delivery of the Council s Network Management Duty under the Traffic Management Act 2004 and the coordination of all highway activities under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991. The Council is a founder member of the London Permit Scheme and has a dedicated Street Works team to manage all of its statutory obligations. The Street Works Team are looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated person to carry out a range of duties related to the coordination of works carried out on the highway. The Permitting Officer post is an exciting role which involves regular engagement with utility companies and contractors applying to work on the public highway. The successful applicant will be predominantly working remotely and/or office based assessing permit applications submitted for both utility works and highway works within the borough. The post holder will also monitor immediate works activities, assess works durations and be responsible for imposing any necessary national conditions to works permits. You will have a sound understanding of temporary traffic management associated with works on the highway, methods of minimising disruption while ensuring safety of all highway users and work operatives. It is essential that pragmatic solutions are identified with regards to balancing the needs of works on the highway network and those who rely on journeys throughout the borough. You will also require solid and up to date knowledge of street works legislation and the codes of practice that cover Safety at Street Works, Coordination of Street & Road works, inspection processes and enforcement activities related to contraventions of requirements of the London Permit Scheme.
