Description:
- We are now seeking a Senior Group Legal Counsel to join Strategic Sourcing and Projects Legal Affairs, a new unit within the Group Function Legal Affairs (GFLA) which is focused on strengthening contracting with our most critical suppliers across the globe – from semiconductor supply for our leading networks business; to inbound licensing of software for our telecoms software business; to critical internal IT and outsourced services. Good contracts form the backbone of our business and are critical to our continued profitability and success.
Whilst the main focus of this role will be in the supplier contracting space, we encourage active collaboration and you can expect to work closely with highly skilled legal professionals in all other legal teams including, in particular, Products and Technology; IPR; and Global Disputes.
What you will do
- Provide legal advice to, and influence, stakeholders – at all levels of the company – involved in the selection, contracting and management of suppliers.
- Draft, review and negotiate supplier and other agreements (and related contracts and documentation), with a tailored level of support depending on the priority of the matter.
- Provide trainings on relevant legal and contractual issues to stakeholders and to other lawyers across the company.
- Proactively escalate and raise risks and concerns with contracting practices and specific contracts.
- Actively and extensively collaborate with other lawyers across the legal community.
- Show curiosity, ask questions and get to know the technology involved in what we sell and buy.
- Be involved in wider contracting improvement initiatives and projects across the Group.
You will bring
- Law degree or law qualification of equivalent standing from a leading university or law school.
- For UK applicants, qualification as a solicitor or barrister.
- Preferably 7 years or more of experience as a commercial, technology and/or corporate lawyer, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house experience.
- Experience of similarly complex multinational groups and advising on cross-border matters.
- The experience needed to take a broad and proportionate approach to risk.
- Very high level of integrity and independence.
- Proven business and technology acumen; and the curiosity to learn about the complex technology we buy and sell.
- Ability to handle any counterparty in negotiations and to support and work with managers and executives of all levels.
- Good networking ability and great interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to clearly articulate complex issues and manage internal stakeholders, external counsel and counterparties.
