We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Anaesthetist. This is a substantive consultant post and applicants will be expected to have interest and suitable experience within colorectal surgery, pre-operative assessment of high-risk patients and general duties. The post will include sessions in high risk anaesthetic assessment clinic. The appointee will be expected to develop perioperative medicine in the trust. The department operates cardiopulmonary exercise testing to risk stratify the patients over last 10 years.
The new appointee will share the case-load, facilities and trainee grade support with the existing consultants.
In conjunction with the existing consultants, the appointee will lead developments in anaesthetic services/perioperative medicine within the Trust.
This substantive post will be based at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow and will be responsible for providing high quality, responsive Anaesthetic service/Peri operative care to The Princess Alexandra Hospital assuming responsibility for the patients within the catchment area in co-operation with Consultant colleagues in Anaesthetics and other clinical departments. The post requires to support the acute pain relief service in the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to:
1. Maintain and promote multi-disciplinary team work within the speciality and those associated with the critical care services.
2. Take an active part in the formal teaching and practical training & supervision of junior staff. Assume responsibility for professional supervision and management of non-consultant grade medical staff.
3. Concern themselves with the professional development, both clinical and personal and of their trainees.
4. Take part in risk management, governance activities and other activities in the directorate.
5. Take part in continuing medical education activities in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists' guidelines.
6. Participate in the consultant anaesthetists on-call rota, including providing cross-cover for annual and study leave.
7. Assume continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge including all administrative duties associated with the patient care.
8. Engage in a timely fashion with the departmental and trust communications eg. Respond to emails or otherwise.
9. Provide leadership for proper function of the services in his/her charge in line with agreed policies of the Trust.
10. Develop of his/her own speciality interests, including active participation in audit and research programmes.
11. Assume corporate and individual responsibility for the management of the junior medical staff.
