About the role
The successful delivery of the Partnership strategy is critical to the continued success of the Partnership. At the heart of the Partnership Plan is the Transformation Team, responsible for the creation and successful delivery of a £500m+ annual portfolio plan as part of our multi-year journey. Recognising the need to organise ourselves in the most efficient and effective way to deliver the Partnership Plan, our operating model is organised around a "hub and spoke" model, with an enterprise portfolio management hub connected into each of the Partnerships Lines of Business (John Lewis, Waitrose, Pan-Partnership). As we move into the next phase of our transformation, we have an opportunity for an experienced Strategic Change Manager to join a newly formed Strategic Change Management Team in the Transformation team. The Strategic Change Management Team supports the Partnership's journey towards sustained growth and innovation by ensuring that change is correctly landed, embedded and sustained for our Partners. This role will own the strategic change management landscape and plan for the assigned Value Stream(s). As the role holder and a leading practitioner of change management in a multi-programme environment your primary focus will be to enable Value Stream Partners to successfully understand and adjust to change and minimise the disruptive impact of the cumulative change plan for your assigned Value Stream(s). You will do this by designing, adapting, and delivering targeted Change Management interventions and activities for large-scale, complex, and high-value outcomes. Each Value Stream consists of multiple complex initiatives, projects and programmes.
At a glance:
* Working pattern/flexible working - We know flexible working is important to you, and it is important to us too. The Partnership has adopted a blended working approach meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and at home. Depending on your assignment there may be a requirement for you to spend around 1 to 2 days a week in the office and also on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings and team events and there will also be an expectation to visit other locations as the need arises.
* Location - The normal place of work for this role is either Bracknell or London. Please note, any cost incurred as a result of travel to the office is the responsibility of the candidate. There is no travel allowance for this role.
* Contract type - This position is a FTC till August 2026
* Expected Salary: The expected salary for this role is up to £75,000
Key responsibilities:
* Your responsibility will be to ensure that the sequencing and phasing of Partner impacting change by the Value Stream(s) that you are assigned is integrated and enduring in order to achieve the Partnership's strategic outcomes.
* Working with the relevant Strategic Change Brand Lead for one of our brands you will support in the development of the Brand Change Plan to ensure that key business leaders and Partners understand the Partner impacts of the cumulative change plan across the Value Stream that you are assigned using appropriate tools, techniques and stakeholder engagement to drive and manage mitigations for change contention.
* Additionally you will be responsible for the consistent application of the Strategic Change Management Framework and its toolkit across the Value Stream. You will actively identify and provide feedback on opportunities for continuous improvement of the framework to the Strategic Change Capability Lead.
What will you be doing?
* As a key member of the Value Stream team, you will work into the relevant Value Stream Owner and closely collaborate with PMO Managers and Programme Managers to advise on and guide the Value Stream's change journey. Your role extends to supporting Programme Managers in flexibly and effectively applying the Strategic Change Management Framework, in ways that create the best change experience for Partners in the Brand line. This will include identifying and notifying the Strategic Brand Change Lead where more targeted support from the Change Management capability may be required. From here, you will provide targeted support as needed on individual programmes of work and/or product delivery within your Value Stream(s), at relevant points in the change lifecycle.
* It will be critical for the role holder to have expertise in Change Management and to have undertaken change management assessments and activities across a portfolio of initiatives, projects or programmes.
* The role holder will serve as a role model for excellent influencing and coaching practices, supporting and empowering key stakeholders to lead and land their own change. In addition they will need to have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders and have a relentless approach to high standards and continuous improvement.
Essential skills you'll need:
* Working as a Change Manager across multiple in-flight large, complex programmes and projects with senior stakeholder groups
* Significant experience of applying change management techniques in both an Agile and Waterfall project delivery setting
* Expertise and significant delivery experience of change management principles, methodologies and tools applied to all types of change: systems, processes, structures, behaviour/culture
Desirable skills you'll have:
* Globally recognised Change Management qualification e.g APMG or PROSCI
