Pharmacy Distribution Assistant - Part time or full time hours considered.
The Pharmacy Purchasing and Distribution Team supply medicines across the whole of the OUH NHS Foundation Trust meeting the needs of patients' medicine requirements. The team is based in our warehouse situated on the Unipart site in Cowley; however, this post involves rotation across all Oxford Trust sites.
Training and Qualification
* You may already hold a Btec Level 2 in Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Support Staff qualification (or equivalent GPhC recognised qualification), but if not, do not worry as full training and support through this qualification process can be provided.
The Pharmacy Stores and Distribution team is responsible for receiving pharmaceutical stock, maintaining stock levels, checking deliveries for accuracy, and putting stock away ensuring effective stock rotation. Picking, checking, and packing medication to go to wards and other areas of Pharmacy is also required. Visiting wards and departments on a rotational basis to conduct pharmacy top-ups, ensuring that ward stock inventories are maintained safely and accurately is part of the role.
Main Duties of the Job
We are looking for a Band 2 Pharmacy Distribution Assistant to join our team based in our warehouse on the Unipart site in Cowley. This is a full-time post (37.5hrs per week); however, part-time flexible working options would also be considered. Previous Pharmacy experience is not essential.
The candidate will be required to work towards an NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services if they do not already hold this qualification, which will be supported by our Education and Training Team.
Duties include:
1. Visiting clinical areas in order to conduct ward stock top-ups across all Oxford Trust sites.
2. Dealing with telephone calls from Wards and Departments.
3. Picking orders to supply various departments.
4. Receipt, unpacking, and putting away of deliveries.
5. Conducting checks of expiry dates and stock levels.
Experience is not necessary, but a keenness to learn new skills and a desire to be part of a team dedicated to meeting service needs is essential. The supply of medication across all clinical areas in the Trust is essential to patient care.

Job Responsibilities
1. To be familiar with the operation of the pharmacy computer system.
2. To carry out ward/department top-ups on any of the sites serviced by the Purchasing and Distribution Unit.
3. Checking expiry dates on wards and ensuring that drug cupboards are kept to an acceptable standard of general tidiness.
4. To assemble ward and dispensary picking lists.
5. Answering telephones and dealing with queries.
6. To print stock to-follow lists for wards & dispensaries.
7. To regularly check for short-dated and expired stock within the distribution or store area.
8. To print ward stock lists as required.
9. To assist the Senior Distribution Assistant in maintaining a tidy, safe, and efficient working environment.
10. To be involved in the return of goods from wards and departments including entering into the pharmacy computer system and checking of return lists.
11. Disposing of Pharmacy waste in accordance with guidelines.
12. To be involved in improving the distribution service in conjunction with senior staff at the Purchasing and Distribution Unit.
13. To become accredited to check boxes assembled by other staff.
14. To work towards and attain Btec Level 2 in Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Support Staff.
15. To be trained in relevant elements of Good Distribution Practice (GDP).
Receipt of Medicines from Suppliers:
1. Unpacking goods delivered and checking against original orders and delivery notes including:
1. Checking parcels are for the correct delivery address.
2. Ensuring stock received is in a condition suitable for use.
3. Ensuring that goods received match goods ordered.
4. Checking items for accuracy against the purchase order.
2. To restock shelves with delivery from suppliers ensuring stock rotation and appropriate storage conditions.
3. Receiving goods into the pharmacy system.
4. Any other reasonable duties.
