We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant to invigilate our public-facing Searchroom, under the supervision of the County Archivist.
You will be the first person our visitors meet and be responsible for welcoming them to the Record Office and helping them use all available resources on the shelves and online to order documents and carry out their own research. You will carry out their copying requests under the guidance of the County Archivist, and record statistics about our visitors to inform and improve the researcher experience.
You will also be responsible for producing documents from the strongrooms as requested by researchers and ensuring good handling procedures as guided by the County Archivist. As part of the role caring for these documents, you will also be responsible for recording their movements according to our established procedures and presenting monthly totals for analysis by the County Archivist.
Outside of your daily duties, you may be requested to work with the Research Officer to answer email enquiries and participate in activities across the Isle of Wight Heritage Service designed to increase the profile of our collections.
This is an opportunity to work in a Local Government Archive during a period of accelerating change and help us take advantage of every opportunity to widen the understanding of the past and future culture of the Isle of Wight.
