MLK Education Search are pleased to be supporting this specialist school that supports young girls with various needs related to SEMH and SEN, in the search for a Safeguarding Officer to start as soon as possible.
Rated as a Good school from Ofsted, they provide education, nurture and support across key stages 3 and 4 and are looking for a passionate Pastoral Assistant to join a vibrant and growing school. The role is varied and will require an adaptable, flexible, and resourceful individual able to cope in a high-pressure environment and deal with constantly changing priorities.
Due to the nature of the setting, the role can be challenging on a day-to-day basis, dealing with the complex emotional and behavioural needs of the students. It is essential that you have some experience of applying de-escalation strategies and, where needed, positive handling/restraint techniques. However, the school will provide ongoing training.
Main Purpose
* The Safeguarding Officer will take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school (including online safety).
* They will take part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings and contribute to the assessment of children.
* They will advise and support other members of staff on child welfare, safeguarding and child protection matters, and liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police.
* Some safeguarding activities may be delegated to deputies, but the Safeguarding Officer will retain ultimate lead responsibility for safeguarding, child protection, online safety, and filtering and monitoring processes.
Desirable Experience and Qualifications:
* GCSE (Grade C+) or equivalent in English and Maths.
* Degree or higher-level qualification/training (desirable).
* A relevant safeguarding qualification (Level 3 desirable).
* A minimum of 2 years' experience working in a safeguarding role within a school or other relevant organization.
* Successful leadership and management experience in a school or other relevant organization (desirable).
Experience of Managing Safeguarding:
* Building relationships with children and their parents, particularly the most vulnerable.
* Working and communicating effectively with relevant agencies.
* Implementing and encouraging good safeguarding practice throughout a large team.
* Demonstrable evidence of developing and implementing strategies to help children and their families.
* Experience of handling large amounts of sensitive data and upholding the principles of confidentiality.
