Purpose of the role The Depot Manager will be responsible for the following Depots and SE Rail Depots, including several third party owned depots from which Heidelberg Materials material is supplied to either internal concrete plants or external customers: Allington Depot. Ardingly Depot. Kings Cross (St Pancras). West Drayton Depot. West Drayton Coalyard Cricklewood depot (Third party relationship). Purley Depot (Third party relationship). Crawley Depot (Third party relationship). Woking Depot (Third party relationship). The SE Depot and Closed Sites Manager will also be responsible for the Closed Sites, as below, and any others that arise: Rickneys Reigate Wrotham Allington These responsibilities re. operation of the S.E. rail depots as listed above, meeting all agreed standards for safety, cost control, quality and customer focus by successful and effective management. The role holder will also seek continuous improvement in all of these areas. The SE Depot Manager will also be responsible for optimising rail operations for the above stated depots and in this way consolidate the knowledge and understanding required to maximise the effectiveness of the rail system used by Heidelberg Materials in the SE region. The Depot Manager will also be responsible for: Liaising with the contracted rail management companies to ensure the optimisation of the rail service provided to Heidelberg Materials, to forecast and plan for stone demand in South England, and to manage service shortfalls as effectively as possible. Co-ordinating and managing the trains orders from the depots and quarries across the South region alongside regional rail manager. Identifying which stocks should be held at each site to increase resilience of supply to our customer. Liaising with Heidelberg Materials commercial teams to identify demands required. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders re: closed site issues including, but not limited to: security, fencing, planting etc. Key Accountabilities The main activity of the role involves leading, directing and managing the operational team to achieve its performance objectives. The performance emphasis for this unit includes Health and Safety Operating to the highest level of health and safety objectives in line with Heidelberg Materials Health and Safety Plan. Action a plan of continuous improvement in this area. Environmental Operating to the highest level of environmental objectives in line with Environmental Management Plan. Action a plan of continuous improvement in this area. Compliance Ensure all statutory legislation and company regulations are adhered to with respect to all operational activities. Operations Achieve optimum production levels in line with commercial activity at the lowest operation cost. Continually advance operational improvements to improve efficiency with the production functions. Distribution Working with the logistics function to ensure operational procedures are such that highest customer service levels can be achieved at the most efficient operational cost. Quality Working with the technical function to ensure operational procedures are such that the highest quality levels are achieved at the most efficient operational cost. Business Analysis Working with the Operations Manager to ensure all operational management information is accurate, relevant and is used effectively to assist in the management of the business and the progression of all profit enhancing opportunities. In order for the day-to-day activities outlined above to operate effectively, the roles also involves a number of wider aspects, including; Resource Planning Identify and formally proposed CAPEX projects as the needs of the Depots dictate Ensure that your site management teams are resourced and that personnel are trained and developed. Assets should be in place and maintained to ensure the business plan can be delivered. Ensure personnel are developed and become highly competent, and to identify and progress any employees with the potential to further their career through the business and a successional line is in place to facilitate this activity. Directing Provide leadership to the site teams, ensuring that operational goals and expectations are understood and personnel are proactively developed. Controlling Ensure operational control mechanisms are effectively implemented covering all relevant aspects (including Health & Safety, environmental controls, capex management control, revenue spend controls).
