We are seeking an experienced Senior Private Sector Housing Officer to join a progressive local authority's Private Sector Housing team. This exciting interim opportunity offers the chance to take on a junior management role, directly contributing to improving housing standards across the borough. You will lead on complex cases, manage team members, and drive key projects to deliver impactful outcomes for residents and landlords.
The Role
·Lead investigations into poor housing conditions, substandard HMOs, and breaches of housing legislation, implementing enforcement actions where required.
·Supervise and mentor apprentices, students, and contract workers, fostering a culture of learning and professional development within the team.
·Ensure compliance with the Housing Act 2004, HMO licensing schemes, and Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation Regulations.
·Engage with residents and landlords, providing advice on housing standards, energy efficiency, and legal compliance. Organize landlord and tenant events to promote best practices.
·Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, such as the Police and Fire Brigade, to deliver joined-up enforcement initiatives and improve housing outcomes.
·Lead on energy efficiency initiatives and empty home projects, helping to align service delivery with broader environmental and housing agendas.
The Ideal Candidate
·Demonstrated expertise in housing enforcement, property inspections, and applying housing legislation to complex cases.
·Proven ability to supervise and mentor staff, manage workloads effectively, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
·In-depth understanding of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), housing regulations, and environmental health standards.
·Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with a creative approach to achieving positive outcomes.
·Experience using housing and case management systems, such as Uniform, to maintain accurate records and manage data effectively.
·A strong commitment to delivering inclusive services that address housing inequalities and support vulnerable residents.
·Must be willing to come to office / site 5 x a week
