We are looking for committed individuals to help us deliver an excellent Decontamination service.
You would be involved in the Cleaning, Inspection, Assembly, Packing and Sterilising of medical devices including Endoscopes for the supply to Wards, Departments and Theatres throughout the organisation.
You will be based at Brighton but may be required to travel to the other site occasionally as required.
If you are happy to work in any area on a range of tasks and provide excellent support to our existing experienced staff by putting our patients at the heart of everything you do, we want to hear from you.

Training will be provided internally and progression to band 3 after completing internal training modules and a minimum of 12 months experience.
Main duties of the job
Role Summary
The Decontamination and Sterile Services Technician is responsible for providing effective safe and efficient collection, decontamination (washing, disinfection and sterilization) and distribution of re-usable medical devices for use in direct patient care with complex speciality demands, including devices, of varied design which are of a delicate and valuable nature (e.g. £75,000 each).
Technicians must comply with the essential requirements of the Medical Device Regulations, the SSD maintains a quality system (I.S.O 13485:2016), this is a legal requirement under the consumer protection act, see appendix A for standards involved.
To ensure the proper functionality and operation of equipment used in medical and surgical specialities both Trust wide and for external customers e.g. Trauma, Cardiac, Neurological, Ophthalmic, General, Vascular, Day Surgery, Urological, Orthopaedic, Maxillo Facial, Plastic, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Clinics, Wards, Endoscopy.
To undertake quality checks for cleanliness and functionality of equipment, before distribution to customers in accordance with Legislation and Quality Systems ISO 13485:2016 and UKMDR:2002 and Health and Safety.
To collect and accept delivery of used equipment from all customers including external agencies.
To undertake the daily testing and validation of decontamination equipment and maintain the appropriate records, recording and reporting faults to ensure timely repairs and maintenance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
On a rotational basis duties include; receiving, disassembly and cleaning of contaminated equipment.
To inspect, test, assemble, pack, sterilize and distribute instruments and equipment for supply to customers, wards, departments, theatres and external customers.
To assess and approve, work of colleagues and others.
To record all the essential stages of the decontamination/sterilisation process.
Operate and test all equipment within the department.
To make a diagnosis of daily test results on machinery used in SSD and inform relevant personnel if results are contrary to the required standards; ISO 13485:2016 and UKMDR:2002 and Health and Safety.
Carry out functionality tests on all re-usable medical devices.
To record and process the test results and demonstrate compliance, so as to enable audits and facilitate analysis.
Assist with Planned Preventive Maintenance.
Carry out all duties in line with the Trusts Health and Safety policies.
Carry out all duties in line with the Departments accredited Quality System.
Receive and document goods and equipment, check delivery notes against goods delivered for accuracy and record non-conformances.
To participate as part of the on call team as required especially in emergencies.
Assist in restocking of supplies and record all information required.
Carry out assigned clerical tasks as required.
Keep areas clean and tidy; maintain a safe and compliant environment.
Deliver the workload within the agreed time and to the required customer service level agreement.
Prioritise, depending on customer requirements to ensure minimal disruption to patient care e.g. surgical lists and trust waiting list initiatives/targets.
To collect, process and distribute essential medical devices and sterile packs throughout the trust including clinics and outside agencies in accordance with legislation and quality systems ISO 13485:2016, UKMDR:2002 and Health and Safety.
